Forums: Village pump → Quest Dual-Faction Tooltips

Good day,

I would just like to make the suggestion that Template:Quest be changed so that if pointing to a faction disambiguation page (such as {{Quest|Spreading the Word}}) then the tooltip from both factions be displayed, side by side, as opposed to the current message "this quest has no tooltip". To accomplish this with economy of effort, I would propose that disambiguation pages which serve only to separate Horde and Ally versions of the quest have written into them a line of code to include (for transcriptions only) the content from the two pages they point to, and the quest template would be modified as necessary to detect and accomodate the display of two info-boxes from the same article (as both would now be included).

The thing is, people really shouldn't be linking to Spreading The Word in the first place. They should be linking to the individual faction's version. Disambig pages are mostly for when you do a search. Ressy (talk) 19:11, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
Thinking about it again, I have to agree with you. It is better to do it like "...Cultists are spreading the word (Alliance/Horde)". I only thought of this after seeing a clever use of linking to the disambiguation page in Elemental Unrest#Phase 2, but I'm thinking now that having ally/horde links in brackets would be a better solution. The problem is that sprinkling "(Alliance/Horde)" disambiguation inside sentences doesn't scan particularly well. We've been through this before - things would be a lot better for article style if we could assume a default faction, but people are concerned about appearing biased if we make that choice. — foxlit (talk) 21:51, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
