Altar of Storms refers to certain structures used during the Second and Third Wars. Orc warlocks in the Second War invented a method to grant intelligence and magical powers to their ogre allies. This method involved arcane edifices such as the Altar of Storms. The Alliance destroyed several such altars in the Second War. Altars of Storms were initially created by the warlock Gul'dan to channel demonic energies into ogre-magi. Altars of Storms were imbued with the corrupted power of the great Runestone at Caer Darrow. Only a few of the original Altars of Storms remain. During the Third War, many of the Altars of Storms were retooled by troll masons to channel shamanistic energy in order to revive fallen heroes.

History

Second War

Carved from the Runestone at Caer Darrow, the Altar of Storms channels dark and arcane energies through the bronze figures that tower above it to pervert the innate elven magiks of the Runestone. These energies, lost when the orc warlocks were destroyed by the Doomhammer, are now used to create the powers of the ogre-magi. It is here that the ogre-magi are imbued with new spells and skills to aid them in their fight against the Alliance. The Altars are avoided by the rest of the Horde as the intense energies that emanate from their cold surfaces can be...unhealthy.

Third war

Following Thrall's reformation of the Horde, many Altars were retooled by troll masons into structures capable of channelling shamanistic energies with the intent of reviving fallen heroes.

Current times

The Altar of Storms in the Burning Steppes is one of the few remaining from the Second War; it is a relic. The altar is cracked and scarred, but its remaining energies draw elementals and ogre magi to the area. It is a dangerous place.

In the Burning Steppes, members of the Blackrock clan perform strange rituals at an Altar of Storms in the shadow of Blackrock Spire. Just west of it, Mor'zul Bloodbringer and Gorzeeki Wildeyes can be found studying it.

Warcraft Adventures

In Warcraft Adventures: Lord of the Clans, one scene would have had Thrall standing before Orgrim Doomhammer, Kargath Bladefist, and Kilrogg Deadeye on an Altar of Storms in some sort of meeting.
