[Moonfire] is an instant cast offensive spell that deals direct arcane damage along with a 12 second DoT that also deals arcane damage. It has become one of the Druid's signiture abilities that is most commonly used by Balance and Restoration Druids, however; this unique ability can also be a viable method for pulling mobs or finishing off fleeing enemies if specced into the Feral Combat tree.

Notes
- Keeping [Moonfire]'s DoT effect along with [Insect Swarm] up on enemies will account for a large portion of the overall damage done by the druid to the target. Thus these two spells are of the upmost importance to keep active on enemy targets at all times.
- If the druid is specced into the Balance tree then upon entering a Solar Eclipse, [Moonfire] will be "morph" into [Sunfire] and will remain so until the druid leaves Solar Eclipse.

Related Glyphs
[Glyph of Moonfire] increases the periodic damage of the DoT that moonfire applies by 20%. This is considered one of the best prime glyphs for Balance Druids due to the increased damage of this ability as of patch 4.0.1.
Tips and tactics
- Generally this ability along with [Insect Swarm] add up to a large portion of the overall damage that Balance Druids deal during a fight, especially if both are glyphed. Thus opening with [Moonfire] followed by [Insect Swarm] or vice versa is the best option, however; [Faerie Fire] is also a good opener for longer lasting fights or when facing enimies that can [Stealth].
- It's often considered an excellent choice for pulling, regardless of the druid's spec due to its instant cast and long lasting DoT.
- The talent [Lunar Shower] is makes [Moonfire]'s direct damage increase by 90% AND turns it into one of the cheapest abilities in the druid's arsenal making it cost only 33 mana at level 85 IF three stacks are active. Thus this talent is worth investing in for fights that require lots of movement or if mana becomes an issue. It's also good for kiting in PvP or finishing off fleeing enemies.
- The only disadvantage of this spell, which other DoT spells face is well is that reapplying it (which is common since moonfire is easy to spam) cancels the periodic damage effect that was put on the target from the initial cast. Thus to increasing overall damage, cast this spell once and let the DoT do its work. When it wears off reapply then rinse and repeat.
- The DoT effect of this spell will not be overwritten by lower ranks of the spell, but the initial damage will still occur.
