Archmage Aethas Sunreaver is one of the members of the Council of Six — the ruling council of the Kirin Tor. He is found standing next to Rhonin and Archmage Modera in the Violet Citadel. Also, the Horde district of Sunreaver's Sanctuary is named after him. This refers to his high position within the Kirin Tor. It is likely that he is the one who succeeded Kael'thas as the new blood elven member of the council.

His image resides in the Dragonblight in the Horde fortress of Agmar's Hammer.

Unlike his Alliance equivalent Vereesa Windrunner who is Silver Covenant faction, his in-game faction is Kirin Tor and not Sunreavers. This is very likely because he is member of the Council of Six, effectively making him one of the rulers of Dalaran, whereas Vereesa is only Rhonin's wife and thus not affiliated with Kirin Tor otherwise.

Patch changes

Patch 3.2.0 (2009-08-04): Aethas now wears the Sunreaver's Tabard, but is still affiliated with the Kirin Tor.
