Astranaar^{[36, 50]}

, aka Astrannar,^[1] is a night elven town situated on the east-west road that divides Ashenvale in two. Like the Redridge Mountains and Duskwood regions in the Eastern Kingdoms, Ashenvale is often attacked by Horde as it is one of the first-tier contested zones for the Alliance. However, the danger is two-fold since Ashenvale houses two Horde towns, one in the Zoram Strand and the other to the east at Splintertree Post. Exercise extreme caution around Astranaar. When questing, set your hearthstone to the inn whenever feasible in order to avoid having to dodge groups of Horde who like to gather a short distance away from the town in preparation to raid it.

Astranaar seems to be the only city that is a capital of two zones, Ashenvale and Hyjal Summit.

Cataclysm

This section concerns content exclusive to Cataclysm.

The Horde have begun launching air assaults against the town from their post at Hellscream's Watch. The Night Elves have placed soldiers at the base of that Horde outpost in an attempt to thwart the attacks, but Astranaar periodically burns from their sorties.^[2] A number of Astranaar Throwers have been set up around the perimeter of the town for defense.
