Auctioneer is AddOn that scans and tracks Auction House data, including bids, buyout prices, and listed quantities. It was created by Norganna. This AddOn is the core of the AuctioneerComplete package of AddOns which includes Auctioneer, Enchantrix, Informant, BottomFeeder, EnhTooltip and Stubby. The AddOn compilation is maintaned by an international team of over 10 active developers lead by MentalPower.

Usage

Auctioneer gets its data through scanning the auctionhouse. Scanning is initated by the user and no further action is required until the process is complete. The scanning process generally takes between 15 and 20 minutes depending on the amount of listings on the auctionhouse. Partial scans of a single item may be done from auctioneer's aution listing screen, which will compare the price of the item being placed for sale to the current listings of that item. It is generally recommended that even with partial scans, full scans should be done regularly to maintain an accurate price history on all items.

Outside the auctionhouse through the use of informant, users may mouse over item icons or links to bring up a tooltip with data on the item gathered by auctioneer including historical price averages, recommended bid, and buyout, and other item data such as vendor buy-and sell prices, useful for advising others on item value or choosing quest rewards to be sold to a vendor for maximum profit.

BottomFeeder Removal and replacement

In October, 2006 the BottomFeeder portion of auctioneer was removed due to potential conflicts with botting and automated program policies. The following was released by the creator of auctioneer on the website's news page:

Norganna - 2006-10-13 01:43:53: Because of so much dispute amongst whether BottomFeeder is or is not legal, I have contacted Blizzard to see what they thought. I have been informed that this addon does not please them, and they want it gone, so I am voluntarily removing it from this site as of now.

Upon the advent of WoW 2.x, BottomFeeder was reintroduced as BottomScanner, retaining most of its previous utility, however without automatic buying and selling that called its use into question.
