Azgalor was once the lieutenant to the mighty demon-king Mannoroth (a pit lord). Following Mannoroth's death at the hands of the orc Grom Hellscream, Azgalor took it upon himself to direct the Burning Legion's ground forces at the Battle of Mount Hyjal.^{MoM 177}

Azgalor's first mission was to accompany Archimonde as he made his dreaded ascension up Mount Hyjal towards Nordrassil, the World Tree. Azgalor unleashed a fury of demonic energies, massacring every mortal in his path. During the battle he fought Broll Bearmantle but in the end the pit lord overwhelmed the druid and used his two-bladed sword, Spite to smash the Idol of Remulos, corrupting it and killing Broll's daughter, Anessa. But just as they thought they had achieved victory, Malfurion set loose his wisps which imploded the Tree and incinerated Archimonde. The Legion had been defeated once again.

Though the Legion was defeated that day, and Azgalor seemingly vanquished, he escaped into the Twisting Nether to plot his revenge against the mortal armies of the world, and seeking to destroy all life on Azeroth, employing whatever forces he can utilize.^{MoM 177} Azgalor set about gathering whatever resources he could muster for a second attack, vowing that, this time, no one would survive.

Though he isn't as clever as his former master, he has an aptitude for chaos and violence that is legendary even among demonkind.^{MoM 177}

In World of Warcraft

One of the realms in World of Warcraft is named after Azgalor. See Realm Names and their place in Warcraft Lore. Azgalor can be found in the Caverns of Time instance for the Battle of Mount Hyjal.
