Base class is a term used describe a class as one of the basic character classes, which traditionally only fit into one role. The term is used in contrast to hybrid class, which can perform multiple roles in a group setting.

The three major roles in a group setting are tank, healer, and damage dealer. The base class for those roles would be warrior, priest, and mage respectively. *Disputable.
