A flight master is an NPC that offers a character the opportunity to obtain flight paths and to fly to other flight masters through those flight paths. They can usually be found at a roost or nest of flying transportation mounts, which are either bats, gryphons, hippogryphs, wyverns, or dragonhawks — usually depending on the race of the flight master. To discourage players from attacking flight masters, they are level 65 elites (rarely non-elites) and spawn two additional aggressive level 65 elite beasts of the appropriate transportation animal when attacked by opposite faction players. Not all flightmasters are of the same level. Flightmasters don't attack players of the opposite side unless they are themselves attacked nor help you if you are attacked by players of the opposite side.
Some flightmasters, such as several in Hellfire Peninsula, only have one option to fly to and this is usually not very far away. Bomb-dropping quests usually use this sort of flightmaster.
As of Patch 2.3, your pointer will change when you move it over a flight master:
- New Flight Path
If the flight master has a new flight path for you to discover, a green will appear over their heads, and they will appear as a on your mini-map.
- Obtained Flight Path
After a flight path has been discovered the green will no longer appear, but they are still able to be located on the minimap with the tracking system. They will appear as a winged boot () at their locations.
- Icon on map
On a map, flight masters are represented by flying boots. Blue, brown and yellow boots represent Alliance, Horde and Neutral flight masters respectively.
Flight master titles Edit
Most flight masters have common titles that you can identify them with.
