Berserking is an active racial trait of trolls. It increases your casting or attack speed (depending on your class) by 10% to 30% for 10 sec. The haste increase depends on the damage received. Activating this ability does not trigger the global cooldown.
Notes
The haste remains constant for the whole duration of the spell. Being healed while the spell is active does not reduce the effect.
For caster classes, the formula seems to be like that:
Spell haste = 10% + 33% * ((total health - current health) / total health), but not higher than 30%
This means that the full bonus of 30% is received as soon as you have 40% health or less, whereas from 40% to 100%, the bonus linearly decreases to a minimum of 10%.
Tips and tactics
Try to use that spell when badly injured, to get the most out of it. A 30% haste can turn the battle in your favor.
In PvP or time-critical PvE battles, the damage increase can be worth the mana/rage/energy expense, even when not damaged at all.
Past changes
Berserking was introduced in Patch 1.1. It caused a fixed amount of haste, and it could only be triggered when below 20% of maximum health.
In Patch 1.4, its functionality was changed, so that it increased attack and casting speed by 25% and damage taken by 10%. Furthermore, it didn't require one to be below 20%; instead, it could only be used after being hit by a critical melee strike.
Patch 1.9 (1/3/06): New functionality: Berserking is now an activated ability that increases your melee, ranged, and casting speed by 10% to 30%. The value scales upwards towards 30% depending how low your health is when you activate the ability.
