Stress Test FAQ

How do I sign up for the World of Warcraft Stress Test?
The free World of Warcraft stress test beta accounts issued by FilePlanet have all been claimed by testers.
What is a stress test?
A stress test measures how much traffic a server can accommodate and still function efficiently.
Why is Blizzard conducting a stress test for World of Warcraft?
Blizzard is conducting a stress test to measure the maximum operating capacity for the World of Warcraft infrastructure, namely the servers and account-creation pages. Blizzard wants as many people as possible to overload the infrastructure to determine the optimum population a World of Warcraft server can support.
Will I have full access to the World of Warcraft game?
You will be able to play the same version of the World of Warcraft beta that the closed-beta testers are playing. However, because the stress test is designed to accept more players than the servers can handle, gameplay performance will not be optimal. Keep in mind that during testing, there might be significant lag and performance issues.
Once the stress test is over, will I be able to play in the beta?
This sign-up is only for the 7-day stress test. The beta test is completely separate and is taking place on different servers from the ones on which the stress test will be conducted. However, later in the year, Blizzard will hold an open beta test for World of Warcraft, and anyone with an Internet connection is invited to participate. Please do not contact anyone at Blizzard about the open beta test. Blizzard will post an announcement on their Web site when the open beta is ready to go live, so please check there periodically for more information.
When does the World of Warcraft stress test beta begin?
The World of Warcraft stress test beta is just a day away. Hundreds of thousands of gamers applied for the stress test this past week, and FilePlanet was up to the task, issuing over 100,000 accounts and providing the stress test beta client for download. With the signups and downloads complete, we are just about ready to welcome these gamers into World of Warcraft for the very first time.
Starting tomorrow, September 2nd at 12:00 noon PDT, stress test beta participants will be able to create their World of Warcraft accounts and begin playing the game. Their participation will help us optimize our account-creation and server infrastructure, and enable us to deliver the best online experience possible when the game launches later this year. We want to thank everyone who applied for the stress test beta, and we look forward to seeing the new testers online tomorrow when the stress test beta starts.
Selected stress test beta participants should keep an eye on their inboxes for an email containing further instructions. For more information on the World of Warcraft stress test beta, please check out our FAQ. To get a head start on learning how to play World of Warcraft, take a look at our beta strategy guide (after ship this became the Gae Info – News page).
How will I know if I get into the stress test?
You will be contacted by e-mail letting you know that you do indeed have a spot in the stress test. Please do not contact Blizzard regarding your stress test application status.
How long will the stress test last?
The World of Warcraft stress test beta will last for seven days.
Am I guaranteed a spot in the stress test by signing up?
If you are a FilePlanet subscriber you are guaranteed a spot in the World of Warcraft stress test beta as long as you apply during the specified sign up period.
Can I sign up for the stress test if I am not a FilePlanet subscriber?
The stress test beta authentication keys that Fileplanet set aside for free accounts have now all been claimed. FilePlanet still has additional keys available for FilePlanet subscribers, however. When the signup period ends, any authentication keys not claimed by FilePlanet subscribers will go to free accounts that are currently on a waiting list.
Will I be able to start playing right away?
No. When the stress test beta is ready to begin, you will receive another email with instructions on what to do to start playing. There will also be an announcement on www.fileplanet.com when the stress test beta is starting.
What do I do with my authentication key?
You'll need to hold on to your authentication key for when you create your stress test beta account. The account-creation process will take place sometime after you've downloaded and installed the game client, when the stress test is ready to begin. At that time, you will receive a separate email with instructions on how to create your account and start playing.
Will I need to connect to the Internet to play?
Yes, you need to connect to the Internet to take part in the World of Warcraft stress test beta.
Will I be able to keep my account and character from the stress test?
No. Accounts and characters created for the stress test will be deleted at the end of the test. If you have the opportunity to test World of Warcraft at a later date in the open beta test, you will be creating a new account and character(s) at that time.
Will there be a Mac version of the stress test available?
Yes. This stress test is for both Mac and PC users.
Why is this stress test only for North America?
Due to multiple time zone and language differences, we have decided to limit the stress test participants to the United States and Canada.
What do I do after I download the World of Warcraft client?
After you receive your e-mail and key, you will be given instructions to download the game. You will not be mailed a CD. Follow the instructions to download and install World of Warcraft. When the stress test is ready to begin, you will be contacted with another email telling you to visit the account-creation page to create an account.
