Bind to Account (BtA; previously "Binds to account", but now "Binds to Battle.net account" as of Patch 4.1) is a new form of item binding that was introduced in Patch 3.0.2. Items that are BtA include heirlooms, Collector's Edition companions, the [Baby Blizzard Bear], and the [Onyxian Whelpling].

Many players incorrectly use the term BoA instead of BtA to match BoP and BoE. Sometimes any Bind to Account items are referred to as "heirlooms" even though they are not technically the same (they usually don't scale, unlike true heirlooms).

"BoAs" as many people call them can be bought from many rep. vendors, including bought from points in Dalaran and Honor points in Wintergrasp

Mailing items Edit

As of Patch 5.4.2, account-bound items can be mailed to characters on the same account, even on different realms and across factions. You simply type the character's name then a "-" followed by the realm the character is on. Some naming rules apply for realm names, since they can have spaces and apostrophes, unlike characters names.

As of Patch 4.1, account-bound items can be mailed from characters attached to different World of Warcraft accounts if they are under the same Battle.net account and on the same realm. Also, faction-specific items will be translated to the faction equivalent, if changing factions.

Starting with Wrath-Logo-Small Wrath of the Lich King, account-bound items can be mailed to any character that shares the same account and server. Since Patch 3.3.0, account-bound items can be mailed to characters of opposing faction.

Patch changes Edit

  • Mists-Logo-Small Patch 5.4.2 (10-Dec-2013) Can be mailed to character of other faction on a different realm.
  • Cataclysm-Logo-Small Patch 4.1.0 (26-Apr-2011): Renamed "Binds to Battle.net account" on in-game tooltip and items can be mailed between accounts that share same Battle.net account and are on the same realm.
  • Wrath-Logo-Small Patch 3.3.0 (08-Dec-2009): Can be mailed to character of other faction on same realm.
  • Bc icon/Wrath-Logo-Small Patch 3.0.2 (14-Oct-2008): Added.
