"The blades, curses and powers of enemies are blunted in the face of the Light."
Blessing of Sanctuary is a talent in the Protection tree, you will need to spend 21 points in Protection to max it. This blessing is primarily intended for tanking paladins, as it requires an investment into the protection tree, and loses a great deal of its usefulness if applied on a character who cannot use a shield.

Paladins also have Greater Blessings, which includes a Greater Blessing of Sanctuary which can be learned (purchased) from the Class Trainer. Each Greater Blessing affects all players of the targeted class within your party or raid and lasts for 30 minutes (as of patch 2.2).
Each Greater Blessing you cast requires the reagent Symbol of Kings which can be bought at any reagent vendor.
Tips and Tactics
- This spell is most useful when faced with a number of quick hitting mobs of lower levels as it reduces a specific amount of damage that becomes negligible against a harder hitting single mob. This talent is best used in conjunction with Holy Shield as a method of generating a considerable amount of aggro without having to specifically target any one mob.
- This blessing is a key part of Paladin AoE grinding. However, when dealing mainly with single target, a protection paladin may be better off using Blessing of Wisdom to reduce downtime.
- Normally, only Protection Paladins have this blessing.
Notes
- Per the spell description, damage taken while this spell is active is reduced by up to a certain amount (e.g., up to 80 at rank 5). The actual damage reduction is usually less than this.
- For one, there seems to be a 20-30% hard floor to the amount of damage reduced. A mob that normally hits for 20 or 30 damage per hit without Blessing of Sanctuary, for example, will typically hit for only 5 points less than this with even Rank 5 Blessing of Sanctuary in place.
- For another, the damage reduction appears to happen before mitigation from armor, Improved Righteous Fury, and other sources. For example, if a mob normally hits for 1000 physical damage, and you have Rank 5 Blessing of Sanctuary and enough armor to achieve 50% physical damage reduction against that mob, the 1000 incoming damage will be reduced by the Blessing of Sanctuary to 920 damage, and then the remaining 920 damage will be reduced by your armor to 460 damage.
