High Priest Venoxis' two forms

High Priest Venoxis is the High Priest of the Primal God Hethiss, the Snake. He is one, if not the first, boss players can encounter in the reopend level 85 heroic version of Zul'Gurub. He can still be found at his old location inside the instance.

Abilities

All Phases

  • Venomous Maze: At the start of phase 1, two beams will start forming a venomous maze. The "walls" of the maze are poison clouds that deal damage whenever touched or jumped over. The maze will be finished during phase 2 and disappear after the beams in phase 3 have disappeared.

Phase 1

  • Toxic Link: The same ability that Venomancer T'Kulu uses. Links two targets together, dealing damage to both of them and every other player around them each tick. The link breaks when both players have moved away far enough from each other, resulting in both players exploding, dealing a final tick of damage.
  • Whispers of Hethiss: The same ability that Venomancer Mauri uses. Inflicts rapidly damage to a random player (roughly every 0.5 seconds or even faster). This looks similar to the priests Penance spell and can be interrupted.

Phase 2

  • Breath of Hethiss: The same ability that the Venomguard Destroyers use. Venoxis will start spitting poison in a frontal cone, dealing massive amounts of damage. The tank can move out of the breath to avoid the damage.
  • Poison Pool: The same ability that the Venomguard Destroyers use. Venoxis will create poison pools underneath him which will grow in size before disappearing at the start of phase 3. These deal massive damage so no one should ever stay in them. The tank must move Venoxis immediatly out of them.

Phase 3

  • Bloodvenom: Venoxis will create a beam for every player alive. These beams will follow their target for quite some time and deal pulsing damage to everyone around them.
  • Weakened: After the beams have dissipated, Venoxis will revert back to his troll form and take 100% more damage for a few seconds.

Strategy

In a nutshell

Most of the damage in this battle can be avoided, but when someone takes damage or isn't paying attion, it can easily kill someone. As an example, the walls of the maze deal around 20k/tick and they tick every 0.5 seconds or even faster. The poison pools can deal up to 50k/tick.

Phase 1

  • Spread out to minimize Toxic Link damage.
  • Interrupt Whispers of Hethiss whenever and as fast as possible.

Phase 2

  • The tank has to move Venoxis out of the poison pools immediatly.
  • The tank and everybody in front of Venoxis must move away when Venoxis starts casting Breath of Hethiss.

Phase 3:

  • You have a few seconds to get to your position while he is casting Bloodvenom.
  • Do not touch the walls of the maze if not necessary.
  • Watch out where you are moving. If two players are running against each other both will take damage from the beam behind the other player. It might be a good idea that everybody starts at the same corner and all move at the same time - but if someone starts his moving to late he will take damage from all beams, probably oneshotting him.
  • When Venoxis gets weakend, burn him with everything you've got. After his weakend debuff dissipates phase 1 will start again.
