Blizzplanet was launched on November 11, 2002 and joined the Blizzard Fansites Program shortly after. They post news of all Blizzard Games: Starcraft, Warcraft III, Diablo II, World of Warcraft, and others. They are very focused on Warcraft lore content to appeal to fans of the Warcraft franchise.
As part of the Blizzard Fansites Program, their loyalty to Blizzard and their fans is to maintain a clean community following and respecting the EULA and Terms of Service of Blizzard Games. Their support to Blizzard Entertainment spreads to advertising products like Warcraft RPG Books, Warcraft novel pocketbooks, Warcraft Board Game and World of Warcraft UpperDeck Trading Cards, among other products. Additionally, they often interview Warcraft novel writers, White Wolf and Upper Deck representatives, Blizzard Sound and Music Composers, Voice Actors, and others to keep the fans up to date with Blizzard Entertainment's whereabouts.
Roots
Blizzplanet was formerly Star-craft-2.com, founded by Yitten and Stephen. On September 22, 2002, Blizzard announced Starcraft: Ghost at Tokyo Game Show. With no hope for a Starcraft 2 release, and scarce news, one of the members: Justice, proposed "Blizzplanet" as the new domain name. Immediately, another of their former members LSDesign created the logo. Blizzplanet launched as a All-Blizzard-Games News and Content fansite, rather than the Starcraft-only focused fansite. Blizzplanet had at one time over 20 staff members, but most of them have moved on: college, jobs, other games, personal reasons, etc.
Currently, Blizzplanet consists of two Staff members: DarkNemesis(Chief Programmer) and Medievaldragon(Admin, Newsposter). DarkNemesis has been pivotal with the programming of the website Content Management System (CMS), and fixing what breaks. The Forum Affiliates Firence and Meara own and administrate the RP-PvP.com forums, assist in Public IRC interviews moderating the IRC Channel and participating openly in the interview asking questions to interview-guests, managing the community.
