Explanation
Note section does not take into account Patch 3.1 changes.
The tooltip might be misleading to some. For Blood Boil to do damage, the target must have a disease on them. For example, if the Death Knight is fighting three mobs with diseases on all of them, Blood Boil will do damage on all. But if only one of the mobs has diseases, then it will do damage against that target only. Hence one would first stack the target with diseases, then use Pestilence to spread them to nearby mobs and then use Blood Boil.
Patch changes
- Patch 3.1.2 (2009-05-19): If no target is available for Blood Boil to hit, the spell will now cast and consume a blood rune but generate no runic power.
- Hotfix (2009-04-16): "Blood Boil should no longer penetrate Ice Block or Divine Shield. [1]"
- Patch 3.1.0 (2009-04-14): Damage increased to make up for Pestilence no longer doing damage.
- Patch 3.1.0 (2009-04-14): Now does some damage to undiseased targets and extra damage to diseased targets. Its radius has been decreased.
