The spear was handed down through many generations of the Bloodhoof line. It's last owner was Cairne Bloodhoof until it was shattered when Cairne was defeated by Garrosh Hellscream in a Mak'gora. Each owner carved his own major history into the shaft before passing it on to the next generation.[1]

Every inch of this massive spear is carved with tauren tribal runes.[1]

The runespear can return to its wielder when thrown. It allows its wielder to move more stealthily, particularly in plains of tall grass, and it hides his presence from animals.[1]

SpeculationEdit

This article or section includes speculation, observations or opinions possibly supported by lore or by Blizzard officials. It should not be taken as representing official lore.

In World of Warcraft, Cairne wields a totem. However, when Cairne challenged Garrosh to a duel, his weapon of choice was the Runespear, which was shattered by Garrosh during the duel. The pieces of the Runespear were scattered with Cairne's body in his pyre. Thrall took the smallest piece, which had the rune "healing" in it, as a way to keep Cairne close to his heart.
