The Hammer of the High King (also known as Modimus's Hammer) was the hammer of Modimus Anvilmar, the last high king of Ironforge. After his death, when the clans battled for or control of Ironforge, the hammer had mysteriously disappeared. It was later found out that the hammer had been broken into three pieces. During the chaos of the war, each clan had, in one way or another, managed to obtain one of the fragments:
- The Wildhammer clan had obtained the handle, taken by one of the clan and reforged into a scepter carried by Thane Kurdran, and before him, Thane Khardros.
- The Bronzebeard clan had obtained the hammer's head, damaged beyond recognition in a fire during the civil war and tended to in the city's library along with other debris gathered in memory of the conflict.
- And the Dark Iron clan had obtained the once-golden-hued crystal that had been set into the head of the hammer, found by one of the clan's sorcerers and altered in color to hide its identity.
