Overhaul of Patch_mirrors page

Blizzard is finally offering REAL patch files to 4.01.13164 & 4.0.1.13205, as evident by this page (Atomicgamer for instance offers those files too): http://games.on.net/filelist.php?app=178&menu=1

I believe it's time to edit the page so we can list patches for each region again, as before, not just those MPG & TFIL files.

Existence WoWWiki

Edit Count Display and Quantity Errors

Just happened to notice that the edit count is not showing on user pages and there is a significant discrepancy between the old and the new. Past that, grats on the move and I again think it is for the better in the long term. Ariule (talk)

Chrome search title

Congrats on the move! I wanted to report an error I noticed earlier searching the site via the Google Chrome omnibar. Quick recap: Chrome recognizes searches on a site, and thenceforth when it sees you typing the url it will offer you the ability to press tab and enter keywords to search using the site's search functionality. When you do press tab, Chrome places an icon on the left side of the omnibar that says "Search [site name]:". When I searched Wowpedia for the first time, [site name] is still "WoWWiki" according to Chrome. I don't know where it pulls this name from, but apparently it didn't get changed over. Threw me for a loop for a second. I'm aware you can change this name manually, which I've done, but obviously the default should be fixed.

TLDR: The Chrome omnibar search functionality still calls Wowpedia "WoWWiki".

...and grr, it looks like I'm unable to repro this; when I delete the search from Chrome and make it re-generate it, "wowpedia.org" is displayed now. Still could be because of my edit though, so I guess I'll let you guys take a look at it just to be sure. Perhaps you fixed it already. - Jerodast (talk) 08:09, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

Sidebar & Other Graphical Improvements

Hi Pcj,
Congrats on the move and a new shiny Vector skin.
If you are wondering how to have a 100% customisable sidebar with minimal fuss, Aionopedia uses an extensions named CustomNavBlocks or sumthing like that.
Also for the edit article box that in typing this in, you may want to consider using the UsabilityInitiative until they have a easily plug-in for CKEditor.

Wikia reference in DNP policy

Hiya! Just randomly trawling around the new site (love it, btw), and came across a reference to Wikia's ToU (and a broken link, to boot). Specifically, in the [DNP Policy] article. I'm not sure where that link really should point, and it's an important enough part of the policies that I really don't want to get it wrong. So, the next best option seems to be "alert an admin". Multiple File Upload Page Broken

Recieve the following error with both FireFox and IE

e-mail validation not working

Hey there, since you "pulled" me over, I thought I'd make it your problem :p
Taking over my account here worked fine, except setting my e-mail address seems to cause some troubles => I don't receive the validation e-mail. Now I don't know whether gmail blocks it or wowpedia does not send it, but I just checked the spam to be sure. I think MediaWiki:Sidebar here could be opened in edit mode, and some or all of the old Monaco site navigation could be added to the bottom. I believe the Vector skin would automatically put nearly all of it in nested form. With open/close arrows. I am curious if that is true. If that is true, then if things don't work out at Wikia I may move my wiki to a wiki farm that has the Vector skin. I don't know how long it will be though, before the MediaWiki-based wiki farms upgrade to version 1.16 of MediaWiki. Item template is causing infinite loop

This was caused because of the missing of the tooltip of Justice point. The tooltip is placed at the left. That needs yet to be fixed. I wonder how you will fix it, because copying the text of the article to a new one places the tooltip to the left for reasons, not known by me. Hans Kamp (talk) 07:13, 30 October 2010 (UTC)

Banning Sannse

Good day Pcj, I would ask you to reconsider your recent ban of Sannse. While I'm aware that it is in response to events at WoWWiki, I would suggest that we should not allow ourselves to stoop to their level. Let Wikia's foolish actions expose themselves for who they are, and let the community judge with its choice of where to go. We don't need to do anything to help them shoot themsleves in the foot. Question about making New item Pages.

When i make a new Item page.. i copy the entire page of an Old item and just make name and stat changes and then when i save it.. the item box is on the left side of the page when it should be on the Right side. how do i fix this? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Kinaria (talk · contr).

Broken template?

It seems the template - ~~1337~~ - (or whatever this is) intended for the currency "Honor Point" redirects to the in-game location with the same name instead. Just click the pic and you'll notice. A question about one of your latest templates

Hello, I found this template today: {{Faction switch}}. It's been a time since I've wanted to make my own template with that "switch window" feature, but only a few wikis used it, and it was a mess of a code. It's the first time I see it at WoWPedia, and it seems easier than I originally expected.

Would you mind explaining (shortly) how it works, or linking some tutorial? (I'm not sure how this functionality is called, so it's hard to find anything around it)

My main objective is to apply it to {{Bookfooter}}, allowing you to see the different sections without having to open new articles. If it works, I could try making something similar for {{Dungeons}} (currently being discussed as to be split or not).

Category Deletion

I noticed you deleted Category:Casual guilds, however we currently have both Category:PvP guilds and Category:PvE guilds. If we're willing to have guild pages broken down in that manner, why would Casual or RP guilds not have the same treatment? Hooper (talk) 17:14, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

May I ask that you explain your reasoning a bit? I would argue that they are the exact same type of breakdown, being one of the only four types of guilds I've ever heard of in four years of playing, and seeing the term used exactly the same as the three categories of guilds we currently have when guilds recruit. Casual is exactly what the term means. To place one of the other terms would imply that a guild actively pursues to be that type, like PvE, PvP, and RP guilds do - which is why they use those terms when advertising. A casual guild may do both but is not actively pursuing to do them or defining their entire guild structure around one or the other. Its not a big deal, I just don't understand why it wouldn't be given the same treatment. Hooper (talk) 17:27, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

Obsolte quests protocol

Could you help me find the policies governing pages covering now obsolete questlines, NPCs, etc.? I'm looking for pages to clean up and there are still a lot of them about quests that no longer exist. Are we preserving this information? Let me know how I can help out! Recent Armory link changes

Looks like you changed all the old wowarmory.com links to use the new battle.net URL's. There's just one problem. In the URL the realm names and character names need to be lower cased; otherwise, you get a big "character not found" error page. Edit: Or not, it appears to be something else. Support from Blizzard?

The other day I was having a look at my characters on battle.net. Hovering over a profession will display two external links for that profession, to Wowhead and Wowpedia (which I guess you know anyway...). I know wowhead is pretty popular, but it surprised me they had included Wowpedia. I thought Blizzard were hesitant when it came to supporting Wowpedia, which is why Wowpedia is hosted by Curse instead. removing my additions?

Why do you keep removing my additions of videos to the sections? I've worked very hard on these and they offer something the others don't.

You'll be fine now, the problem is we have been flooded with people adding YouTube videos and there really isn't time to go through each one to assess its quality so we needed some policy to moderate it. Blizzard Armory links to deleted pages on Wowpedia

Hi, I've been using the Blizzard Armory to read up on items and for some things (maybe all), it has a link to Wowpedia (nice!). However, when I clicked on the Wowpedia link for "Design: Delicate Chimera's Eye", it gave me a page that said it had been deleted moved (by you?) with this comment "Mass deletion of pages added by Cannibaleyez".

I don't know why the page was deleted, but is there any intent to make sure that links from Blizzard go to actual pages (even if they're just stubs)?

Page was deleted, cause Cannibaleyez created a bunch of pages with things like "Design: Delicate Chimera's Eye" and that's it... just a repeat of what the article name was.

Possible vandalism.

Hello PCJ. User FunOnABun recently changed all the Elemental Lords articles, swapping their images and I believe their character NPCbox shouldn't be using those certian images since they are outdated and not very accurate. Therazane was already reverted by someone but Al'akir and Ragnaros are using the artwork from Thammer and not so beautiful art from Shadows and Lights in their char box when they were using respectivly - in-game Cata screenshot and TCG artwork. Being new to WoWpedia, making sure not to step on toes.

Hi Pcj, I recently spent a few hours cleaning up/re-organising the Useful Macros page for Death Knights. I was just making sure that I set it up the way you'd envisioned the site.

That specific area was, and still is a mess. I'll be going through it as I level my DK and can test out the various "old macros" and bring them up to their respective sections.

Tooltips on another Wiki?

Hi Pcj, I was wondering if you could assist in setting up your Tooltips on another Wiki?

I had some code that was setup on a wikia wiki with someone else's assistance and moving it to a different wiki again SEEMS to be ok, but it doesn't work (I also think it might be a quirk of the Vector skin). The Wiki is the RIFT Wiki and I currently have the .js in my user pages. in vector.js, tooltips.js, TooltipsCore.js & TooltipsItem.js. I do not have ability to grant you admin rights or similar but feel free to edit my User Pages so that it should at least appear right to you. Item pages will be using the Template:Item but I need to rework this a bit to be more cleaner still, additionally I intend to use Template:ilink for use on all the other pages.

Hey PCJ, the War against Deathwing article is constantly changed to include Malfurion as an Alliance commander, while he actually doesn't take part in the conflict similar to Lady Liadrin, Hamuul Runetotem, Varok Saurfang or even Thrall who are not listed. I really think he doesn't fit there, as he is more neutral as leader of Cenarion Circle (just like the 4 Horde commanders who simply do not take part in the war eventhough they're in the Horde). JS Tabs

Hey, I am an admin on a wiki and was looking for an extension for tabbed content, but they all.. well they stink. I did, however, take notice of the tabs you guys use on the portal pages ( Template:Wwp ) and was wondering if you could point me to the .js and such to get those to work? I've managed to piece together the .css needed for them, and have some of the .js from MediaWiki:Common.js regarding tab switching and what I assume is also part of it called createPageInCategory() as it also makes calls to ptabs. I guess whatever is needed. I've been working for the past two weeks creating a dark vector skin which oddly enough I see ya'll have done yourselves (though I've opted for a red base instead of grey/yellow due to the theme of the wiki content). The main issue I am running into with the tabs is the creation and display tag not working when the tabs are clicked. That is, it is not creating the divs with the content loaded into them nor does clicking the tabs do anything but take you directly to the portals themselves. The #ifeq for ptab1-5 (not the 7 used for your portals) at the bottom of the tab template tries to load the portals as templates, and not transclusions. Removed gems

Gems which were already cut weren't removed, they were changed into the new versions. {{Removedfromgame}} is more for stuff that may still exist on characters but just no longer drops. --Pcj (T•C) 21:40, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

I'm from lotro-wiki.com and we are currently working to implement your nice popup script, with good success so far. But I have one change, I wanted to propose to you. Why do you restrict your script to div-tags only? If you don't restrict it to divs-only, you can do things like the Fruit Roll Recipe popup.

Restricting to a particular tag is a CPU/memory optimization (if you're doing any coding in jQuery at all, please read http://hungred.com/useful-information/jquery-optimization-tips-and-tricks/ ). If you don't restrict it, the JavaScript parser has to search through all elements for the particular class (for browsers that don't support that feature of HTML5). I don't see anything on your demo page that couldn't be done with DIVs. It's been forever since I named the variable, but if I recall correctly it means "tooltip, floating box" or something like that (I didn't expect people trying to read between the lines). --Pcj (T•C) 01:29, 2 April 2011 (UTC)

Thanks to your help yesterday, I found out what caused the problem with my DIVs not being displayed correctly. They have been displayed fine on Firefox, but neither on Chrome nor on IE. I had to change the position value in order to align the parent div horizontal not vertical. Is this fix only required because of my faulty usage of this popup? We don't usena "stealth" info box on our pages which is displayed on the popup, we just copy parts of the content of the visible wiki pages and put them in the popup. --EoD (talk) 18:21, 3 April 2011 (UTC)

If you use something like firebug or the chrome debugger, you can see how the layout of the div is aligned, by hovering with the mouse over the div tag. Without that change, it's vertically aligned. Local copies of removed sources

When is it okay to copy a source verbatim from Blizzard? We have things like History of Warcraft sections and in-game quotes. WrathOfDeathfrost's Bestiary articles were okay per Coobra's talk page, but Ashbear160's "Troll Compendium" and "Encyclopedia - Naga" ‎were not per your deletions. Blizzard's license permits use of things from their website and games. Re-publication of books and printed material is not OK. We should try avoiding duplication of the website as much as possible, though some use of its content is fine. Adding Tool-tips to my wiki

I am a Bureaucrat on the Ikariam wiki, and I would like to implement 2 of your tool-tip functions on my wiki and have no idea what portions of the MediaWiki:Common.js file i need to use, I have in the past tried to copy several sections and reloaded the browser to have the changes take effect and nothing ever worked. The 2 tool-tip functions I would like to have are:

The {{Quicktooltip}} option, for a better Tool-tip display than the normal <span title="blah blah blah"> text </span> option.
The {{Ajaxsub}} option, because I hate the wikia <tabview> ... </tabview> display.

I can make you an admin, in order to implement whatever changes you need on the wiki.

Template trouble

I've noticed that many users are using either the {{User ClassCombo|Night Elf|Hunter}} or/and {{User ClassCombo|Blood Elf|Hunter}} templates. However, many of them are also typing "elf" instead of "Elf" which the template cannot process. Can it be fixed so that both versions are "accepted"? About Felhound and Fel stalker

I understand that you seem to be more connected to technical aspects of the website than its contents, but I could not find the staff last, and you're the only administrator who has left a message in my profile.
There are these two pages: Felhound and Fel stalker, if you notice, they contain repeated information. I suggest a merge. This was a unit that originally appeared in WarCraft III: Reign of Chaos, and it was named Felhound. In The Frozen Throne, its name was altered to Fel Stalker. I've been documenting its appearances on Reign of Chaos, I'd appreciate if all the information was kept.

Wiki Navigation Bar Question

Our guild runs a wiki for our website and just recently the navigation bar started showing up at the bottom of text on each page, no longer remaining in the upper left as it once did. Do you know the code to add to the server to force the navigation panel to remain at the top of the page, or even scroll with the page, remaining on the screen? No changes to MediaWiki or SQL or XAMPP for months. It started sliding after the articles after the most recent FireFox updates, thus I assume it must be a parsing thing. I thought I read, a really long time ago when I was setting it up, there was a line of code to force it to remain on the screen, floating as it were, or to lock it into a position, such as the upper left, under the logo, as it had always been. Edits to Mongoose Page

I wonder if I could request feedback on my changes to [Lightning Speed]. I wrote a change log on the talk page as well. The main point is the question about how to refer to the proc effects of weapon enchants. The issues being that Wowpedia doesn't seem to have any kind of internal mechanism for referring to spells that don't have a wiki page; and, since I don't think that anyone wants to make a whole wiki page just so the tooltip works when it is sufficient to describe it in the enchant page. There's a precedent for the latter (inclusion of proc/effect buff in the same page as the source), as I mentioned in the talk page, in the ability infobox and a couple others that match it. Sometimes the text in the effect's buff isn't very descriptive, and I personally find the way I clarified its effect (with the texttip template) pretty aesthetically pleasing.

Secondary points would be the last two bullets.

Also, overall the final sentence which sort of says how I'm not sure what the standard way of bringing up this kind of question is.

I've fallen and I can't get up.

I appear to be locked out of my previous account "Ariule" and needed to create this temp account to leave a post someplace as everyone has most wisely hidden email addresses against bots. Strangely, the resend login information button reports that there was no email address associated with that account (doubtful at best). Granted, I have not been logged in for sometime and was wondering if accounts have been auto time locked or something. Please advise....

AjacRC & Collapsible Recent Changes

I don't think you still maintain the Wikia version of this script, and don't know if you have anything to do with it, but your user page said you like a challenge ;) If anything I thought the author of the script would be in the best position to answer a question.

Wikia use collapsible sections on their Recent Changes - the blue arrows seen runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Special:RecentChanges here (I would wikilink it, but the abuseflter stops me :/) - to collapsed multiple edits of a single page for easier browsing of the page. However, when the script refreshes the page the opened sections revert to their closed state. Is there anyway to add a function to remember what parts were uncollapsed? Help With Tooltips

Hi there, I was wondering if you could help me out with porting your tooltip design to my wiki. I'm part of an indie game studio at www.vatales.com and want to use some tooltips for our abilities and more. I have what I believe are the correct lines in my Common.js and Common.css in addition to very similar template pages (Ability, Abilitytip, etc.), but the darn tooltips don't seem to want to work. The popup occurs, but the tooltip only says "Error This target either has no tooltip or was not intended to have one." Sorry for the delay in responding, it seems I didn't receive an e-mail notification when you posted. Based on what the tooltip is saying it sounds like you need to wrap the relevant tooltip content in an appropriate DIV or SPAN. Hope that helps. --Pcj (T•C) 21:26, 10 November 2013 (UTC)

Working tooltips code for ACCWiki

I've attempted to get your tooltips code working on the Asheron's Call wiki at ac. wikkii. net, but they won't appear at all - not even an error message.

I followed the method how you helped Stars Wars Old Republic wiki with their tooltips:

Installed a copy of the tooltips code that is used at swtor. gamepedia .com
Add the code for the common.cs also
Defined class tooltip content class for our item template
Added the ajaxttlink class to our Itemlink template

German WoWWiki tooltip integration

Hello Pcj, I am currently the only active administrator(which I've gotten to be just recently) on the german WoWWiki and I've been meaning to step up the game in our wiki. UO Guide tooltip integration

Hello Pcj,

My name is Broomy and I'm an Administrator over at uoguide.com, It's a Wiki for Ultima Online that has been around for about 10 years and I would love to speak to you about integrating your tooltip technology to our site. Our infobox template we use on item pages simulates what the items popup in the game looks like and i would like that to appear in a tooltip. Also if the page the link your hovering over dosent have a infobox item template on the page then just display nothing.

Fixing usernames in talk pages

Recently, I've seen you do a lot of work on moving and deleting user pages, I assume, to conform to correct wiki standards. I'll admit I don't fully grasp all the ins and outs. I have tried, over the last, I don't know, maybe a year or perhaps two or so, to update/correct usernames on talkpages I come across. At least where it's relatively manageable. As I'm not completely sure of what all your changes encompass, I am wondering if my idea of fixing is counterintuitive. I've been changing redlinked usernames to the names they've, as far as I can gather, been assigned after the wowwiki split. Is that all fine, or is that eventually going to cause extra work down the line? PeterWind (talk) 20:56, 31 July 2017 (UTC)

I was moving the user pages under names that don't exist to the names where they were moved to, which is not necessarily the same thing. I did that without worrying about all the links except for signatures. What you're doing is fine. For what it's worth, there were two mass username changes in this wiki's history: when we merged userbases with Wikia and when we merged userbases with Curse. Wikia added a WoWWiki- prefix to conflicts and Curse added a random number suffix. Hope that helps. --Pcj (T•C) 21:04, 31 July 2017 (UTC)

While a bit overwhelming at first, it's not really a problem for me, as I just increase the "show last" option on the recent changes untill I can find my last edit, with a quick "ctrl+f" for my username in the log. I have a full-time job and these last weeks have been very hard for me because I check every single edit and it take me several hours per day, usually stopping me from working on my own projects. When you say "crowding the front page" What do you mean by that? Just the recent changes page? I don't see any changes on the main page at least. When checking the recent edits, I guess the only advice I can give, even if it might be obvious would be to just look for repeating patterns. Such as, if a regular editor has made changes on 60 pages and all the changes are 15 bytes each, it's probably the same change being made. And as such you can probably just check a few at random, and if you agree with the change, assume that the change made in the other cases fit the theme. I can perfectly understand the "wanting to check all updates" but try not to overexert yourself :) PeterWind (talk) 00:24, 2 August 2017 (UTC)

+I wonder if I could request feedback on my changes to [[Mongoose (enchant)]]. I wrote a change log on the  [[Mongoose (enchant)|talk]] page as well. The main point is the question about how to refer to the proc effects of weapon enchants. The issues being that Wowpedia doesn't seem to have any kind of internal mechanism for referring to spells that don't have a wiki page; and, since I don't think that anyone wants to make a whole wiki page just so the tooltip works when it is sufficient to describe it in the enchant page. There's a precedent for the latter (inclusion of proc/effect buff in the same page as the source), as I mentioned in the talk page, in the ability infobox and a couple others that match it. Sometimes the text in the effect's buff isn't very descriptive, and I personally find the way I clarified its effect (with the texttip template) pretty aesthetically pleasing.

+:I was moving the user pages under names that don't exist to the names where they were moved to, which is not necessarily the same thing. I did that without worrying about all the links except for signatures. What you're doing is fine. For what it's worth, there were two mass username changes in this wiki's history: when we merged userbases with Wikia and when we merged userbases with Curse. Wikia added a WoWWiki- prefix to conflicts and Curse added a random number suffix. When checking the recent edits, I guess the only advice I can give, even if it might be obvious would be to just look for repeating patterns. Such as, if a regular editor has made changes on 60 pages and all the changes are 15 bytes each, it's probably the same change being made. And as such you can probably just check a few at random, and if you agree with the change, assume that the change made in the other cases fit the theme.
