In World of Warcraft a buffer zone is a region of the map (mostly a separated autonomous location) without direct access to the sea and often enclosed on its own landscape. Buffer zones seem to serve overall as a crossroads joining two or more different locations in one spot preventing the players to access them directly. Many of these zones seldom have friendly outposts to each faction.
A strict fixed level preference instead of a level range for mobs and quest givers provides players with unique quest chains generally leading to epic or rare items inside adjacent dungeons or party/raid instances.
