Dogs

A wolf and a darkhound

Dogs are carnivorous predators that usually hunt in packs, but if found alone, usually have other dogs nearby. They vary in size from a several pounds to several hundred pounds, and most wild dogs aggressively attack nearby threats. Most dogs can swim, but rarely do and are not strong swimmers.

Fairly small dogs can weigh between 20 to 50 pounds in weight. They include small wild canines including, coyotes, jackals, and wild dogs. Dogs generally hunt in packs, chasing and exhausting prey until they can drag it down. They can jump fairly well, and survive well when tracking by scent.Template:Cite

In World of Warcraft, a number of creatures share the appearance and/or roles of dogs. In particular, the hunters of many races can tame wolves and hyenas for use as pets or tracking hounds. Darkhounds are in fact demonic dogs, and are used as guard dogs by the Dark Iron dwarves in Blackrock Depths.

This article contains information from the Warcraft RPG which is considered non-canon.

Dogs are found throughout the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor.

  • Albadian Battle Dog

This animal can be found in the cold northlands of Azeroth. With its loose folds of flesh, it shrugs off most damage during combat (the skin pulling away before it can be pierced), and once it bites down on an opponent, its powerful jaws start to bring its opponent down.Template:Cite

  • Cooshie

These elven dogs are rare, previously bred and trained by a single clan of high elves. Since the great wars, they are becoming more common as the clan begins trading with other groups of elves. So far, none have been encountered in the company of any type of humanoids other than high elves and their kin.Template:Cite

  • Death Dog

Death dogs are literally the hounds of hell. Scholars describe them as the ancestral enemies of moon dogs, and storytellers speak of the legendary battles when hounds of the two species met.Template:Cite

  • Moon Dog

Moon dogs are thought to be the hounds of the titans. They run ahead of their masters throughout the realities and stay behind on the worlds their masters have visited. Moon dogs are the ancestral enemies of the Burning Legion's death dogs.Template:Cite

  • Blink Dog

Species of dog said to live in the Emerald Dream.Template:Cite

  • Shadow-hound

Another species of dog found in the forces of the Burning Legion.Template:Cite
