This category contains zone maps extracted from the World of Warcraft game files with their size and aspect ratio intact, which allows them to be used with in-game map coordinates. Map coordinates are a percentage of the width and height of these images -- a location of 17.1,50.2 is 17.1% from the left-hand side of the image and 50.2% from the top.

Uploading maps[]

If you need to replace one of these images or add new zones, you can see if the map gets created with the WorldMapCompiler or, if manually, ensure that you maintain the correct size and aspect ratio. For most maps, including dungeons and raids they'll be 1002x668 and since Battle for Azeroth, outdoor maps such as continents will be 3840x2560. Images should not be cropped or distorted from the original.

Like the WoW Icons, these images use the internal names used by the game files (which are based in Interface/worldmaps), even when they are misspelled or do not match the names presented to users (e.g. "Hilsbrad", "Darnassis", and "Expansion01"). The naming format essentially follows the name as it is in the game files. This helps ensures that Wowpedia has that map. Each WorldMap starts with "WorldMap-" in the name. So for say File:WorldMap-MicroDungeon-DragonIsles-ForbiddenReach Micro D.jpg, this would tell you that the file is in Interfaces/worldmap/microdungeon/dragonisles/ which is collectively named "ForbiddenReach Micro D".

Note that these coordinate-safe maps should not be referenced directly! Use the VZ-maps instead. VZ-maps are editor-friendly references to the Blizzard-provided maps (for example, VZ-Darnassus.jpg for Darnassus's Cata map while VZ-Darnassus-old.jpg is used for the vanilla map which is actually named "Darnassis") and are used by templates like {{coords}} and {{Zone Map}}. See the coords documentation for more information.
