Below is a list of Items of Epic quality items that begin quests found within World of Warcraft.

Key to the focusing Iris - http://www.wowhead.com/item=44569/ Looted from Kel'thuzad, this is an item used to enable a character access to the level 80 Raid, the Eye, in which players fight Malygos. This item is still ingame but is no longer needed to access the eye as of patch 4.0.1

Heroic Key to the focusing Iris -http://www.wowhead.com/item=44577 Looted from Kel'thuzad in Naxxramas 25 Man, this is an item used to enable a character access to the level 80 Raid, the Eye, in which players fight Malygos. Battered Hilt of Quel'Delar -http://www.wowhead.com/item=50380 A random drop from Pit of Saron, Halls of Reflection and The Forge of Souls. This item begins the quest chain for the epic item Quel'Delar.

Warlords Deck -http://www.wowhead.com/item=19257 A deck that is collected to create the Legendary Darkmoon Card, the deck is collected by finding and creating smaller cards. ie. Ace of Portals.

Head of Nefarian- http://www.wowhead.com/item=19003 An item that drops from Nefarian in Blackwing Lair, when handed in it gives the buff Rallying Cry of the Dragonslayer to all players and NPC's in Orgrimmar or Stormwind depending on your faction. Aside the temporary buff, it also rewards the player with gold and an item.

The Phylactery of Kel'Thuzad http://www.wowhead.com/item=22520 An item that dropped from old Naxxramas but since it's removal it is no longer available.

Head of Ossirian the Unscarred - http://www.wowhead.com/item=21220 An item that drops from Ossirian the unscarred , in Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj

Eye of C'Thun http://www.wowhead.com/item=21221 An item that drops from C'thun in Temple of Ahn'Qiraj

Heart of Hakkar http://www.wowhead.com/item=19802 An item that dropped from Hakkar the Soulflayer In Zul'Gurub, but since the removal of the instance the item too, has been removed.

Head of Onyxia http://www.wowhead.com/item=18423 A no longer available item that was looted from the level 60 instance of Onyxia, where upon players could collect the head and return it to their capital city for a reward, which returned armour.

Thorium Brotherhood Contract http://www.wowhead.com/item=18628 An item used to increase Thorium Brotherhood Reputation, and further develop your Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros

Nightmare Engulfed Object http://www.wowhead.com/item=20644 An item used to create the epic, and no longer available priest class staff Benediction

Verdant sphere http://www.wowhead.com/item=32405 An item looted from Kael'Thas Sunstrider in Tempest Keep, which is handed in to A'dal in Shattrath City.

Magtheridon's Head http://www.wowhead.com/item=32385 An item looted from Magtheridon's lair in Hellfire peninsula, the item is handed in at either faction respective forward base in hellfire; Thrallmar or Nethergarde Keep.

Reply code Alpha http://www.wowhead.com/item=46052 This item is dropped by Algalon in Ulduar, it is used to start a world event in Dalaran in which the player returning it is hailed as the saviour of Azeroth and has saved it from ultimate destruction.

Blood of zul'Jin http://www.wowhead.com/item=33102 An item dropped from Zul'Jin that is no longer available in game
