Category:Templates that should have been local

From WoWWiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Lightbulb iconThere are one or more proposals to change this article on the discussion page. Please help us make WoWWiki better by giving us your input!

  • This whole concept is under debate. Please help us sort it!

Templates found here are only used in a very few pages; it is possible that they should not have been placed in the "Template:" namespace to begin with. A good place to have such templates is as a sub page of something else, e.g. ""My Page/The Template".

Please help out by moving these templates to where you think they belong. Help:Template can tell you more! It is also quite possible that whoever put a template here was wrong; if so, just move them to a better suited template category. The discussion page for the template is a good place to talk about its categorization!

An example may be in order (though this may have been moved already by now):

If there's just too few similar templates, creating a category for them seems a loss. You can simply put such templates in Category:Misc local templates. It can always be moved out of there if more similar templates pop up.

There are also subpages that get pulled into another page just like templates, but are not really useful to anyone else; perhaps they've just been split off to make it easier to edit. Subpages like that do not have to be categorized as templates at all.

(The initial batch of templates moved here was done by Mikk trying to use his best judgement. It is entirely possible that he's wrong. If you like, you can comment in the talk page, or just go ahead and move the template. --Mikk 00:57, 31 May 2006 (EDT))

To put a template in Category:Templates that should have been local:

  • Use <noinclude>[[Category:Templates that should have been local|{{PAGENAME}}]]</noinclude>. The "<noinclude>" tags are necessary because without them, you end up categorizing all pages using the template in the template category! Please also note the |{{PAGENAME}}.
  • If your template is meant to be used in-line, make sure that there are no line feeds after </noinclude>. If there are, it may work in flowing text, but it will misbehave in bullet lists. You can have as many line feeds as you like between the noinclude tags though:
<noinclude>[[Category:Templates that should have been local|{{PAGENAME}}]]
</noinclude>Text or graphic that is meant to be used in-line
  • Remember that a template can be put in multiple categories if it belongs to them all!
  • Or, if this is not quite the right category, go back to Category:Templates and try to find a better suited subcategory.
