From WoWWiki
Item resistance directly affects a targets resistance prior to damage calculation
Example: The player has 40 resistance and you have –40 in gear it effectively reduces their spell resistance to 0
Formulation:
This just required a simple test. If it applied directly to the targets resistances then I will be able to see that someone with 50 resistance in a given school will NOT RESIST anything but the 1% normal 100 resist roll..
So…
Constants:
Target’s Shadow Resistance: 50 Spell damage combined : +57 Crit combined: 1% Negative Resistance items: -50 (when used) (used Rune of Perfection and Don Rodrigo’s Band and Doomcaller Boots) Intelligence: 211 (combined) Hit: +4% (Garb of Royal Ascension and Jin’do’s Judgement)
- note the +hit is extremely important.. We had already gotten word what the +hit equations were in terms of pvp http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.aspx?fn=blizzard-archive&t=37&p=1&tmp=1#post37 and I wanted to NOT test for that, but rather the next set of resistances which are given to us here http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/basics/resistances.html ) by having the +4% I negate the intial resist (all but 1%) and can take a direct look at the next set (the mitigation portion)
I cast 250 Shadowbolts using the –50 Resistance gear and another 250 NOT using the –50Resistance gear. What I found was the following:
With the –50 Gear 250 Cast : 0 Partial resists
Without the –50 Gear Partial resists in line with Blizzards chart
I won’t break down the individual spell casts and their values per partial resist.. suffice to say the fact that it was brought down to 0 partial resists by adding –50 (and target’s resistance was 50) proves beyond a doubt that it is applied directly vs the targets resistance modifier.
