A tool to find out what items are available to your level/class/faction at a given point so you can decide what quests to follow or what mobs to farm , called a Character Planner has been available on wowd.org since 2005. With details on source drop/quest/vendor it will help you in planning your itinerary or just let you know what items are available for you at a given level as to make sure you have the best.

There is also a tool hosted by a german guild site that alows to equip/preview items, but provides no info in obtaining them . Other than that it has a lot of features and allows you to virtually equip your character with your dream equipment. It includes a complete talentcalculator and a superfast itemsearch. You can drag and drop items like ingame and see how the stats of your character changes with different equipment. It is also possible to enchant items and create a link to your fully equipped character. A report with allakhazams links to infopages of each individual item can be created and posted to forums and you can export your equipment to WoWModelViewer.
