Compendium of the best Paladin's weapons

Which weapon is better for your paladin? The answer is not always easy when you take Seal of Command (SoC) into account.

Many elements have an impact on SoC dps : Weapon speed (the slower, the better), weapon dps (the higher, the better), weapon special attributes (Agi, str, attack power, %crit), total attack power, total %crit and spellpower.

So I decided to calculate SoC dps for the best 1h and 2h weapons usable by paladins (Maces, Swords, Axes, Polearms).

I also added, like suggested by McHammar, physical damage with 25% damage reduction from armor (also called white dmg). But keep in mind that this isn't an exact hierachy of the best weapons. For that, I'd need to calculate procs (And I can't do that, even if I wanted to!). To be fair, I'd also need to calculate physical dps with different stats setup and/or physical damage reduction. (again, I won't do that, it would be endless). Another thing I did not consider is the effect of vengeance, I'm trying to figure out a way to calculate it and If I find something worth posting, I'll keep you updated.

But even in its current form, the lists gives a pretty good idea of the best paladin weapons for SoC.

Calculation hypothesis

The calculations were made for a paladin with the following stats:

800 attack power 15% chance to crit 140 spellpower +stats (%crit, agi, str, attack, spellpower) on the weapons are included, procs are not * has an uncalculated proc or effect that can potentially increase weapon total dps ** has an uncalculated proc or effect that can potentially increase SoC dps *** has an uncalculated proc or effect that can potentially increase SoR dps

Results for one-handed weapons

How do we know what is the best seal for a one-handed weapon? Which seal should be applied? SoC or SoR?

The answer is: both SoC and SoR DPS were calculated for each weapon, then the one providing highest DPS was chosen.

This approach was evident in the original, first forum post. Then Drhamin edited it to add new weapons (and to give it a more understendable structure in my opinion) and removed that information.

Example math

For those who are wondering how SoC dps calculations are made, here's the formula :

DPS : Weapon DPS 
AP : Total attack power / 14 
AS : Weapon attack speed 
PPM : Proc Per minute of SOC = 7 
CH = Crit % + Hit % 
SD : + spell damage gear 
HD : + holy damage gear (or bonus from judgement of the crusader) 

Formula to calculate SoC dps :

((DPS + AP) * AS) * 0.70 * PPM) / 60) * (1+CH) 

formula to calculate +spellpower SoC dps :

=((SD*0.20+HD*0.29)*7)/60 

Here's the exemple of The Unstoppable Force:

DPS : 61.4 
AP : (800+38)/14 : 59.86 (Assuming the pally has 800ap) 
AS : 3.8 
CH : 15% + 2% : 17% (assuming the pally has 15% crit) 
SD : 140 
HD : 0 

(((61.4+59.86)*3.8) * 0.70 * 7) / 60)*1.17 = 44.02 

+((140*0.20+0*0.29)*7)/60 = 3.27 

final results

= 44.02+3.27 = 47.29 

Formula to calculate White dps :

(DPS + AP) * (1+CH) 

Here's the exemple of The Unstoppable Force :

(61.4+59.86) * 1.17 
= 141.87 

White dps with 25% dmg reduction

= 141.87*0.75 
= 106.4

Patch 1.11 weapons

The lists were updated with weapons from C'Thun and Naxxramas. (I will add [Ashbringer] and others as soon as they are in the Thottbot database.
