Notes
This spell can be learned at a minimum level of 40, since it requires 30 previous Destruction talent points. The first rank is learned by taking the talent; subsequent ranks are purchased from a trainer.
Glyph of Conflagrate affects this spell by causing it to no longer consume the Immolate spell.
Talent improvement
See Cataclysm, Aftermath, Devastation, Destructive Reach, and Ruin, which improve all Destruction spells.
Emberstorm increases Fire damage. Backdraft gives spell haste and reduces global cooldown for the next 3 Destruction spells cast after Conflagrate. Backlash increases the crit chance. Fire and Brimstone increases crit chance significantly when the Immolate on the target has 5 or less seconds remaining.
Tips and tactics
A useful spell for enemies who are near-death, or when your Immolate and Shadowflame spell's timer is about to run out.
Curse of the Elements increases damange done by Conflagrate by 10%/13% based on rank of Curse.
Watch the Immolate and Shadowflame debuff icon on your target to use this when your Immolate has just a second or two left.
The listed damage of this spell and the actual damage will usually be different because Emberstorm (+3/6/9/12/15% dmg of all fire spells (including Conflagrate)) is a commonly taken talent in the tier before.
A devastating 1-2 punch: Incinerate deals more damage when cast while Immolate is ticking. If you time it well, you can cast your final Incinerate shortly before Immolate expires. Cast Conflagrate as that Incinerate lands and the pile of ash that was once your target will wonder just what happened.
The glyph of conflagrate will allow you to use conflagrate without using up immolate or shadowflame. Keep in mind conflagrate has a cooldown of 10 seconds, and immolate has a duration of 15 seconds. This means you can cast conflagrate twice for each immolate, with up to four Incinerates inbetween. Keep in mind that the cooldown for the second Conflagrate has to run out before you can repeat this rotation.
Patch changes
- Patch 3.1.2 (2009-05-19): Updated: Consumes an Immolate or Shadowflame effect on the enemy target to instantly deal damage equal to 12 seconds of your Immolate, or 8 seconds of your Shadowflame.
- Hotfix (2009-04-15): "We have hotfixed the damage of the Warlock spell Conflagrate from 100% to 70% of Immolate's total periodic damage instantly. The tooltip may still show 100% until a future update though. [1]"
- Patch 3.1.0 (2009-04-14): Spell now works similar to Swiftmend, consuming an Immolate or Shadowflame effect on the target and dealing damage based on the strength of that effect. Reduced to a single rank.
- Patch 2.3.0 (2007-11-13): The Immolate debuff will now always be removed correctly when this spell is cast.
- Patch 2.1.0 (2007-05-22): The button for this ability will now be grayed out when your current target does not have Immolate.
- Patch 2.1.0 (2007-05-22): Fixed some data errors that caused Soul Leech and Conflagrate to generate more threat than intended.
