Cyclone is a universal Banish-like spell in that it makes the character affected unable to attack. Neither does it need to defend itself, for it becomes invulnerable. Cyclone is affected by diminishing returns, both in PvE and in PvP, but it cannot be dispelled.

Talent enhancement

Control of Nature reduces the chance that casting of Cyclone will be disrupted by damage, while Nature's Reach increases Cyclone's range.

Cyclone is affected by Nature's Grace, which will decrease the casting time of the next spell by .5 seconds, while Nature's Swiftness makes Cyclone an instant cast spell.

Notes

  • Very few mobs are immune to cyclone, very useful in instances to disable the mob that is going after your healer. Most groups will not like you doing this though. A good rule of thumb is this: if you can stun it, you can cyclone it.
  • If you cast Cyclone on A then immediately cast it on B before Cyclone effect fades from A, A will break free at once.
  • The target is completely locked down: paladins can't divine shield out of it, mages cannot iceblock out of it; however all PvP trinkets can negate the effect.
  • Any aura or passive buff granted by the affected player or mob to other players or mobs will be temporarily negated until the effect ends. For instance if you cast Cyclone on a warlock's pet, Soul Link will be removed from warlock and his pet until Cyclone's effect ends. Paladin, Druid, and other auras are affected in the same way.
  • Additionally, DoT (and most likely HoT) effects are also negated for the duration

Tips and tactics

You might consider casting this on healers to "banish" them from battle for a couple seconds, buying enough time to your DPSers to finish off other mobs or players.

Cyclone is the only effective interrupt a balance or restoration druid has. Use it to interrupt a "long or nasty spell", such as Soul Fire, or to incapacitate a character about to be buffed, dispelled, or healed, to prevent that character from receiving aid.

Remember, this spell completely incapacitates the target for 6 seconds and there's no way to dispel the effect until it fades by itself, so in PvP this spell gives an excellent opportunity to cast a healing spell.

Past changes

Patch 2.1.0 (5/22/07): Bestial Wrath now grants immunity to Cyclone. Cyclone will no longer prevent the immunities from being granted.
Patch 2.4.0 (3/25/08): Cyclone's Range has been reduced from 30 yards down to 20 yards.
