The Dark Riders of Acherus can be found in the realm of shadows while on the quest  [55] Into the Realm of Shadows. Death knights must slay a Dark Rider and take the Acherus Deathcharger from him in order to complete the quest and learn how to summon deathchargers of their own.

After starting phase two by completing  [55] Victory At Death's Breach!, friendly elite versions of the Dark Riders guard Death's Breach.
