At some point in the months following the Lich King's defeat, Fandral gathered many druids to Teldrassil, unfolding a master plan to heal the giant tree. Naralex, Broll Bearmantle and Hamuul Runetotem were among those he called. He intended to use the Idol of Remulos to achieve this, against Bearmantle's better judgement. Before the ritual could be completed, however, Tyrande arrived, having been warned by Elune that Malfurion's life was in greater danger than before.

It was eventually revealed that Staghelm had been a pawn of the Emerald Nightmare's lord, Xavius, who sent a hallucination of Valstann to lead the archdruid astray. Staghelm had secretly been prolonging Malfurion's absence using [Morrowgrain]. Worse yet, he was also responsible for the corruption and near-failure of Teldrassil, by secretly grafting a branch of Xavius's own Nightmare Tree onto the new World Tree in its infancy. When Malfurion finally broke free of the Nightmare, he revealed Fandral's madness and betrayal to the rest of the druids. After the Nightmare's defeat, the druids brought Staghelm to Moonglade in the hope that he would recover, though many suspected that his mind was permanently broken from losing Valstann a second time. Following the events of Stormrage, Fandral was imprisoned within a barrow den on Mount Hyjal. When the forces of Ragnaros began their assault the green dragon Alysra, fearing that the Twilight's Hammer would wish to use him and his knowledge of the night elves for nefarious purposes, decided to have him moved to Moonglade for security. Ysera was concerned with this action, believing it to be a poor idea.

Ysera's fears were not unfounded. As it turned out, Alysra herself was an agent of Ragnaros, and delivered Fandral straight into the hands of the Firelord. He has become the newest chief lieutenant of Ragnaros, and has replaced Executus as the Firelord's Majordomo.[9]

Despite these radical changes, Fandral appears to have kept some semblance of his sanity. He travels to call upon his daughter-in-law, Leyara, his last living link to Valstann after his grandaughter Astaria was killed during the Horde's assault into Ashenvale. Still reeling over these events, and highly disillusioned with Malfurion's passive stance in regards to the Horde, Leyara is inducted by Fandral into the new order of corrupted druids serving Ragnaros - the Druids of the Flame.

Fandral later reappears before his former mentor, and attacks Thrall after he and Aggra arrive to assist the Guardians of Hyjal. Having deemed that the "Twilight Prophet" had declared Thrall a great obstacle, though unable to kill him, Fandral corrupts his bonds with the elements, shattering Thrall's essence into several raw emotions.

Arch Druid Fandral Staghelm was a level ?? quest giver located at the Cenarion Enclave in the night elf city of Darnassus. Though Tyrande was the official leader (for lore and certain quests) of the night elves, Staghelm was designated as a faction leader in-game, and killing him granted players an Honorable Kill. The reasons for this were unknown, though it may have something to do with the secret power struggle going on between him and Tyrande

Attacks and abilities

  • Spell nature stranglevines Entangling Roots — Entangles nearby enemies in roots, inflicting 950 to 1050 Nature damage every 3 sec. and immobilizing them for up to 15 sec. (Radius: 25 yards)
  • Spell nature rejuvenation Rejuvenation — Heals (42000) an ally every 3 sec. for 12 sec.
  • Spell nature forceofnature Summon Treant Allies — Summons 2 Treant Allies to accompany the caster until dismissed.
  • Spell nature lightning Wrath — Hurls a bolt of lightning at an enemy, inflicting 2880 to 3520 Nature damage.

Tactics

One of the most difficult Alliance faction leaders, he appears to be a powerful Balance druid, using a 1 sec Spell nature wrathv2 [Wrath] (1100-1300 Nature damage), Force of Nature (summons treants), and his most powerful ability: casts AoE Spell nature stranglevines [Entangling Roots] followed by an extremely potent Spell nature cyclone [Hurricane]. Players who do not escape it as soon as possible will need serious healing to stay alive.
