A spell being deflected.

Deflect is a little understood and rarely used mechanic. It can occur with spells or melee attacks. A deflect negates all the effects of these attacks if it occurs. It is not known what is the chance of deflection nor if it requires any type of weapon or offhand item equipped. It has been compared to the parry rating, which may affect the chance to deflect.

For auto-attacks "deflect":

There are certain items like meta gems or engineering itemss which can improve it (make it more likly to happen), although deflection is an exclusive effect.
