The tree starts with Improved Healthstone, Improved Imp, and Demonic Embrace and no longer ends with Soul Link and Improved Spellstone, but with the 41 point talent Summon Felguard (2.0.1 Patch). Improved Spellstone no longer exists ( now combined with Improved Firestone in Master Conjuror ).

Demonology is the second of the Warlock's three talent trees. It is often referred to as the Warlock's "forgotten" talent tree or the "red headed step-child" of the talent trees, in that it is not often used or is looked down upon as not being useful, though this opinion is not as prevelent since the addition of Master Demonologist. More recently though, there have been calls by some that Demonology Specialized Warlocks need to be nerfed due to their increased survivability due to the Soul Link talent. Burning Crusade will change the landscape for this talent tree; overall, the Warlock community is very optimistic about the Demonology changes scheduled for the expansion.

Due to the large amounts of spell resistance granted by the Master Demonologist effect of the Felhunter minion, as well as the large amount of stamina the demonology tree grants, they are arguably the best caster tanks and are able to generate threat quickly using Searing Pain. The Felhunter's Devour Magic and Spell Lock abilities, when used correctly (in some cases, in tandem with Curse of Tongues) also make them powerful anti-casters.
Soul Link is considered to be the Holy Grail of the Demonology tree. Originally, its casting allowed 50% of all damage dealt to the Warlock to be transferred to the Warlock's minion and lasted for 30 seconds; Patch 1.8 reduced the damage shared with the minion to 30% but made the buff last so long as the minion is summoned or under the Warlock's control.
As of patch 2.0.3 the damage share rate is set to 20%, and the bonus damage to 5% ( for both minion and warlock ).
Using this spell, the warlock can become a reasonably effective tank, especcially on spellcasting enemies and encounters such as the Twin Emperors in AQ40, where traditional warrior tanks become useless. Master Demonologist is held in equal regaurd, since it offers a variety of powerful buffs to the warlock and her/his pet, depending on which pet is currently being used.
As a demonologist gains Summon Felguard, it replaces the Voidwalker as the warlocks primary tanking pet. Able to hold aggro well enough to be considered a viable off, or main tank, specially usefull in 5-10 man instances.

 +
Demonologists' stones, if they decide to spec into those talents, are more powerful. The Healthstone heals significantly more, helping in raids. Both the Firestone and Spellstone are arguably more useful than wizard oils and other weapon-applied consumables, and the Master Conjuror talent further enhances them; the Firestone adds more critical hit rating and the Spellstone adds more haste.
Demonology is considered by some to be less useful in PvP situations due to its lack of burst damage. On the other hand, the talents Demonic Embrace and Soul Link both allow the Warlock to take more damage. Fel Intellect, Fel Stamina, and Unholy Power all make the minion more powerful. Master Demonologist empowers both the Warlock and his/her minion and Fel Domination and Master Summoner allows for drastically reduced summoning times and mana costs which can be crucial in a fast-paced PvP situation. One of the best tricks of the Demonology specialized Warlock is to use the Voidwalker's Sacrifice ability and then use Fel Domination combined with Master Summoner to summon a new minion in half of a second.

Master Demonologist gives the Warlock a high grade of flexibility, offering multiple different effects, depending on the active pet. It allows the warlock to operate optimally in a wide variety of situations, making it possible to reverse a bad situation -- such as a summoned pet near death -- into somewhat of an advantage.

A demonology-spec'd warlock can, through use of Health Funnel and damage-mitigating talents, solo many elite encounters. At higher levels, even some of the toughest non-instanced elites can be soloed with ease using the Felguard or Voidwalker as a tank.
More recently (2.0.1 patch), demonology warlocks have become an even more viable PVP class with the addition of the Felguard which allows for substantial melee damage as well as intercept/stun. Fel Intellect, Fel Stamina have also seen changes (2.0.1 patch) and gives the warlock a 3% stamina / intellect bonus.

Disadvantages
As in regards to damage, a demonologist with Soul Link and Demonic Tactics carries a damage bonus of 10% (2.0.3 patch). An additional 5% with the Felguard pet, or 10% with Succubus using Master Demonologist making a total of 15% or 20% damage bonus for both caster and minion. Demonic Knowledge also grants spell damage by an amount equal to 15% of the total of the active demon's Stamina plus Intellect.
Additionally warlock pets now scale with gear, making a well geared demonology warlock a frightening sight. With that, demonology warlocks should have enough to shake their old mark as poor damage dealers.

If a Demonologist's pet dies, their DPS is greatly reduced, much like a Beast Mastery Hunter.

Limited talents for mana efficiency.
A Demonology warlock is arguably the best anti-caster in the game when using a Felhunter. The Master Demonology buff offers the best single-source of magical resistances in the game, all of which can be futher supplemented with buffs and gear, and the Felhunter itself adds a dispel (with Devour Magic) and a counter spell (with Spell Lock). Combined with Soul Link and the ability for the Felhunter to heal itself with Devour Magic, such a warlock can gain considerable resistance to magical damage, remove buffs and debuffs, and shut down enemy casters for short periods of time.

Overview

Main article: Warlock talents#Demonology

Demonology is the second of the Warlock's three talent trees. It is centered around improving the Warlock's minions, Stones, Stats and survivability as well as the warlock's two armor spells. The key talents include Spell shadow summonfelguard [Summon Felguard], Ability warlock soullink [Soul Link], Ability warlock improveddemonictactics [Demonic Knowledge] and Spell shadow shadowpact [Master Demonologist]. It is often taken at mid levels (40+) for Demonic Knowledge which provides a substantial increase in damage before much gear with +spelldmg is available.

Advantages

A Demonologist has larger health and mana pools, pets which deal more damage and can soak up more as well access to the infamous Felguard minion, which can be used as a DPS or offtank.

Demonologists have much higher spell damage than other Warlocks due to Ability warlock improveddemonictactics [Demonic Knowledge] and Spell shadow ragingscream [Demonic Aegis]. Their damage is further enhanced in some cases by Spell shadow shadowpact [Master Demonologist].

Demonology is a viable tree to use when solo training, with talents such as Ability warlock soullink [Soul Link] and Ability warlock avoidance [Demonic Resilience] improving the tanking ability of the warlock's active pet, as well as reducing damage taken by both demon and master.

Due to the large amounts of spell resistance granted by the Spell shadow shadowpact [Master Demonologist] effect of the Felhunter minion, as well as the large amount of stamina the demonology tree grants, they are arguably the best caster tanks and are able to generate threat quickly using Spell fire soulburn [Searing Pain]. The Felhunter's Spell nature purge [Devour Magic] and Spell shadow mindrot [Spell Lock] abilities, when used correctly (in some cases, in tandem with Spell shadow curseoftounges [Curse of Tongues]) also make them powerful anti-casters.

Demonologists' stones, if they decide to spec into those talents, are more powerful. The Warlock healthstone [Healthstone] heals significantly more, helping in raids. Both the Firestone and Spellstone are arguably more useful than wizard oils and other weapon-applied consumables, and the Inv ammo firetar [Master Conjuror] talent further enhances them; the Inv misc gem bloodstone 02 [Firestone] adds more critical hit rating and the Inv misc gem sapphire 01 [Spellstone] adds more haste.

Spell shadow shadowpact [Master Demonologist] gives the Warlock a high grade of flexibility, offering multiple different effects, depending on the active pet. It allows the warlock to operate optimally in a wide variety of situations, making it possible to reverse a bad situation -- such as a summoned pet near death -- into somewhat of an advantage.

A demonology-spec'd warlock can, through use of Spell shadow lifedrain [Health Funnel] and damage-mitigating talents, solo many elite encounters. At higher levels, even some of the toughest non-instanced elites can be soloed with ease using the Felguard or Voidwalker as a tank.

Disadvantages

If a Demonologist's pet dies, their DPS is greatly reduced, much like a Beast Mastery Hunter.

Limited talents for mana efficiency.

There are no threat-reducing talents in the tree, although there are talents which allow the pet to generate threat more easily, keeping aggro off of the warlock.

Other Notes

One of the best tricks of the Demonology specialized Warlock is to use the Voidwalker's Sacrifice ability and then use Spell shadow felmending [Fel Domination] combined with Inv feldreadravenmount [Master Summoner] to summon a new minion in half of a second.

After release, it was looked down upon as not being useful, though this opinion is not as prevalent since the addition of Spell shadow shadowpact [Master Demonologist]. More recently though, there have been calls by some that Demonology Specialized Warlocks need to be nerfed due to their increased survivability due to the Soul Link talent. However, since then, the Warlock class, and especially its Demonology tree, has undergone major changes.
