Dire Maul vs Wildheart
From WoWWiki
See also Druid Sets.
Note: Some of the information on the items are a bit outdated.
A comparison of the Druid's do-it-yourself Dire Maul set against the Wildheart set. These two represent the kind of equipment a Druid should aim for before attemping raid instances like MC or Zul'Gurub.
The DM set is designed for a restoration druid and does not include Fire Resistance. You would need to consider some different items in order to get FR. Whether you need to or not depends on your guild's requirements, mainly.
For Tier 0, generally it can be argued that unless you have the complete Wildheart set you are better off wearing a collection of the +heal items below than the Wildheart. The Wildheart set is appealing to those personalities who like collecting 'sets' and it does become good statistically when you have all the pieces.
+HEAL
The DM set has +189 to heals. For a rank 10 Healing Touch, which heals for a minimum of 1890, the heal will hit for 2079 (equal to 110%).
With older patches, this allowed the use a Rank 6 Healing Touch while still getting the full +189, so mana efficiency for delivering a heal would be extremely high. However healing and spell damage bonus now have a heavy penalty when the spell rank is lower than the maximum rank the character can cast, so this benefit no longer applies.
See this page for more information.
Mana per 5 seconds
is extremely valuable. An 8 mana / 5 second item while casting is equivalent to 106 Spirit with the 15% mana regen talent. When not casting, Spirit is great, and that's they key question - whether you are active in a healer rotation in MC/BWL or not. Read Spirit for more detail. The figures in the total of the table below assume you have the 15% regen talent.
