For the warrior ability, see Ability warrior disarm [Disarm].

Disarms are crowd control effects that remove the target's main hand weapon for a short time. Player-caused Disarms also remove the target's off hand weapon or shield if equipped. This has the effect of lowering the target's damage, and prevents abilities that require a weapon equipped from being used. All player-caused disarm effects are subject to diminishing returns.

Disarm Abilities[]

Disarms are only available from Honor talents, and cannot be used when the player is not engaged in PvP.

History[]

Removed from game The subject of this section was removed from World of Warcraft in patch 6.0.2.

Disarm-resistance mechanics were changed in Patch 2.3.0 and later in Patch 4.0.6. Previously, a number of items and some talents provided immunity to disarm. These have all been changed to reducing the duration of disarm effects by 60% and later on 50%.

At the time, all player-caused disarm effects were removed in patch 6.0.2. Player abilities with disarm effects included Spell shadow psychichorrors [Psychic Horror] (priest), Ability warrior disarm [Disarm] (warrior), Ability rogue dismantle [Dismantle] (rogue) and Spell monk ringofpeace [Ring of Peace] (monk).

Counters[]

  • A weapon chain can be attached to a melee weapon, reducing the duration of disarm effects by 50%. These appear as a small white spark spinning around the weapon. They are considered permanent item augments, and attaching one will replace any other permanent augments currently on the weapon (including enchants).
  • Certain items (such as Inv gauntlets 13 [Death Grips]) have this same ability without needing to be enchanted.

Patch changes[]

  • Legion Patch 7.0.3 (2016-07-19): Dismantle re-introduced as an Honor talent.
Other player-caused disarm effects have gradually been re-introduced as Honor Talents throughout the Legion expansion.
  • Warlords of Draenor Patch 6.0.2 (2014-10-14): All player-caused disarm effects removed.
  • Mists of Pandaria Patch 5.1.0 (2012-11-27): The durations of all disarm effects have been reduced to 8 seconds.
  • Cataclysm Patch 4.0.6 (2011-02-08): All disarm reduction effects now reduce duration by 60% up from 50%. In addition, PvP trinkets will now clear disarm effects.
  • Bc icon Patch 2.3.0 (2007-11-13): Disarm effects are now subject to diminishing returns in PvP. Disarm reduction effects no longer grant Immunity to disarms, but instead reduce the duration by 50%.
