Functionality
Uses
* Can be used to pull an enemy away from your pet. You can save your pet from dying this way. You can also tell your pet to "stay" and then hit an enemy with distracting shot. The enemy will run for you, and you can continue to unload on it during this time. When it reaches you, feign death. If it doesn't resist the feign, it will turn around and head back to your pet. Once it reaches your pet, tell the pet to attack it, then get up and resume attacking yourself. Very useful for buying a few extra seconds for your Serpent Sting or Viper Sting to work.

* As a hunter, you have a better armor rating than any priest (except shadow priests), mage, or warlock. After level 40, you will have more armor than any rogue or non-bear druid as well. If one of these classes is in your party, and is under attack, use distracting shot to pull the enemy away from them. It will take that enemy much longer to kill you, which gives your tank more time to try and get it's attention. And if the monster comes close to killing you, you can always feign death - hopefully the tank will be next on the aggro list.

* Useful for hunter tanks to gain aggro.

The shadow hunters' faith and communion with the Loa gods grants them shadow and healing magic, and other abilities. Shadow Hunters learn magic that hinders enemies and aids allies, gaining a unique mix of spells that delve into the more occult aspects of the Loa.

The trolls draw power for their voodoo magics by performing rituals and invoking the Primal Gods, Old Gods,[1] forest spirits, and ancestral spirits: their Loa spirits and gods.

Loa spirits are more powerful than the elementals, but not as powerful as gods.[2] Supposedly, these spirits are mighty entities that grant the faithful extraordinary powers. By calling upon these voodoo spirits, the shadow hunter gains special blessings with which he can combat darkness and help those in need. The abilities granted vary according to the Loa the shadow hunter calls upon.[3] Almost any being who has died and transcended death can be worshiped as a loa, including Forsaken shadow ascendants.

The shadow hunters' faith and communion with the Loa gods grants them shadow and healing magic, and other abilities. Shadow Hunters learn magic that hinders enemies and aids allies, gaining a unique mix of spells that delve into the more occult aspects of the Loa.

The five high priests in Zul'Gurub each have a corresponding Primal God. High Priestess Mar'li worships Shadra, High Priest Thekal worships Shirvallah, High Priestess Arlokk worships Bethekk, High Priestess Jeklik worships Hir'eek and High Priest Venoxis worships Hethiss.

The three high prophets in Gundrak each have a corresponding Primal God. Gal'darah worships Akali, Moorabi worships Mam'toth and Slad'ran worships Sseratus.

Speculation

Questionmark-medium
This article or section includes speculation, observations or opinions possibly supported by lore or by Blizzard officials. It should not be taken as representing official lore.

From the conversation you have with Zen'tabra in the troll starting zone, you can assume that the Loa, at least the Primal Loa like Gonk, reside in the Emerald Dream.

Similarities with the Ancient Guardians, such as being animal-based demigods, and their residence within the Emerald Dream, leads to speculation that they might be the same type of Eternal.

Inspiration

The names of the Loa gods are inspired by the true Haitian Vodoun Lwa. Some of their attributes are correct also, but others are pure creative license.
