Dota 2 is a stand-alone sequel to the Warcraft III Defense of the Ancients custom map and its various offshoots being developed by Valve. While Dota has been used unofficially as the abbreviation for "Defense of the Ancients", but Valve as attempted to register it as a trademark.[1]

This is not a Blizzard Entertainment game, but supposedly Blizzard doesn't have a problem with Valve releasing it.[2]
