The Dread Wastes are located in the southwestern region of Pandaria. It is a wasteland that surrounds the center of a great mantid hive,[1] this zone will be a mix of swamps and deserts ruled by the
Sha of Fear.[2]

Geography
Edit
It is apparent that the Dread Wastes was once witness to a great forest. Massive trees still dot the interior of the zone, as well as one on the island off its western coast. Smaller trees can still be found scattered about, but their numbers are few, and a host have been corrupted and twisted by the malevolent presence of the sha. Most water inland is stagnant and fetid, with multiple bogs and swamps.
The mantid have an overwhelming presence here, with hives in every major tree and a great central hive located in the east. Evidence of their march can be seen spreading from the hive to the east and south, a giant swath of destruction and barren earth left in its wake.
An enchanted glade full of sprites and faerie dragons can be found in the northeast, almost surreal in this devastated land. The pandaren have also carved out small camps in the north and south, and a hive of friendly mantid can be found in the center, but these are the only safe havens.
The island off the western coast is reached via a muddy, wide sandbar. Another large, central hive is located here, with a host of mantid military, as well as yaungol slaves.
Travel
Edit
Getting there
Edit
Both factions will likely pass south from the Gao-Ran Battlefront in neighboring Townlong Steppes to reach the zone, though there are other entry points. Most notable among these is the bridge leading from the Steppes, as well as a path from the water. If coming from the Krasarang Wilds, the Wastes can be reached by circumnavigating the wall along the southern perimeter.
