[Empowered Frostbolt] is a mage talent that increases [Frostbolt]'s spell damage bonus by 2% per rank, up to 10% at rank 5, and increases its critical strike chance by 1% per rank, up to 5% at rank 5. Frostbolt normally has a spell damage bonus of 81.4% of total Frost spell damage. The bonus from the talent is additive, with rank 5 Empowered Frostbolt increasing the spell damage bonus to 91.4%. If the mage also has [Improved Frostbolt], the spell damage penalty is applied after the Empowered Frostbolt bonus. The critical strike chance is additive as well, and only applies to the Frostbolt spell.

Notes

[Frostbolt]'s spell damage bonus is normally 81.4% of total Frost spell damage. With Empowered Frostbolt and [Improved Frostbolt], the spell damage bonus is found with the following equation, where X is the number of ranks in Improved Frostbolt, and Y is the number of ranks in Empowered Frostbolt:

(81.4% + (X * 2%)) * (100% - (Y * 2%))

Tips

Empowered Frostbolt is a direct damage increase to the [Frostbolt] spell, and is valuable in builds that use Frostbolt as a primary damage spell. It is most effective at later levels, when mages have a high amount of spell damage from gear.
