Engineering Specialization is a passive ability possessed by all Gnomes. If the gnome takes up engineering, they start with 15 extra points, as well as maxing out 15 points higher.

This allows Gnome Engineers to have engineering skills of 540 (as of Cataclysm), however increasing your skill beyond 525 has no extra benefit.
