Essence of Air can also be created from  [Essence of Water] by Alchemists with a skill level of 275 using a  [Philosopher's Stone]. There is a global transmute cooldown of 24 hours.

The recipe Transmute: Water to Air is sold by Magnus Frostwake in the Western Plaguelands. Magnus Frostwake is a ghost outside Scholomance and isn't visible unless you complete the quest series given by the other ghosts there.
