Explosive Shot is a Hunter ability from the Survival tree. It is a great shot to use in place of Arcane Shot as the two abilities share a cooldown. It deals roughly 3 times as much damage as Arcane shot, making it one of the core abilities of the Survival Hunter.

Notes

  • Each of the three damage ticks from this ability can crit.
  • When Lock and Load procs, remember not to spam all the charges instantly so that the 2-sec DoT can run its course.

Talents

This ability is made stronger by ranged attack power, including Hunter's Mark. Hawk Eye increases range by {2/4/6} yards. T.N.T. increases damage by {2/4/6%}. Lock and Load can give your next 2 shots no cooldown, no mana cost, and no ammo cost (note that it does not reset the current cooldown). Thrill of the Hunt gives mana back on critical hits, which can proc on each tick. Sniper Training can increase the damage while standing still. Survival Instincts increases the critical strike chance by {2/4}%.

Patch changes

  • Hotfix (2009-04-21): "Critical strikes from the Hunter ability Explosive Shot should properly trigger Thrill of the Hunt again."
  • Patch 3.1.0 (2009-04-14): Base damage lowered by 10%. Attack power scaling reduced by 12.5%. The periodic damage from this ability no longer triggers Judgement of Wisdom and Judgement of Light.
  • Patch 3.0.8 (2009-01-20): Damage increased substantially, and additional scaling added to compensate Survival Hunters for the decrease in power of Steady Shot. No longer deals damage to secondary target.
  • Patch 3.0.2 (2008-10-14): Added.
