We look at the spec and rotation for a Marksmanship Hunter, and analyze the testing results via Recount. All testing is done against a raid boss dummy with no buffs besides basic class abilities. Gear is level 333 premade junk.

Marks is a simple rotation of Steady Shot and Arcane Shot, while hitting Aimed Shot whenever MMM procs and Chimera whenever it is up. Its performance at this time is somewhat lackluster. Definitely looking forward to a buff to Chimera Shot.

Calculating Careful Aim from your dummy data

Remember to spec out of careful aim for your test. Take the damage figures from Recount and plug them into this equation:

For the first 20% of damage:

=((Hit%-60)/100)*(0.2*TotalHits)*AverageHitDamage = Total Hit damage =((Crit%+60)/100)*(0.2*TotalCrits)*AverageCritDamage = Total Crit damage

For the last 80%, repeat those equations, but take out the +/-60 and change the coefficient from .2 to .8.

Add those figures up and the difference from your listed damage is the damage you would have gained from Careful Aim. Do that entire process once for Steady Shot, and once for Aimed Shot. Now, you simply add the new total into your listed Recount total damage and divide by the amount of seconds you were testing. You should gain about 125 DPS, give or take.
