Ironus Coldsteel

Ironus Coldsteel in Ironforge.

Ironormu is a bronze dragon in dwarf visage called Ironus Coldsteel. He is a blacksmithing trainer located near the Great Anvil at the center of the Great Forge in Ironforge.

In World of Warcraft: Classic, he's a weaponsmithing trainer.

After completing his quests in Thaldraszus, he will sell a number of weaponsmithing recipes that had previously been removed.

History[]

Ironormu met the earthen during the construction of the Dragon Isles and admired their dedication to their forges and craft was admirable. When his visage day came, he chose the form of an earthen and he saw it fitting for a fledgling chronosmith. He also had a storage vault in the Passage of Time. As Azeroth was sundered, Ironormu left his forge at Eon's Fringe in Thaldraszus as he departed the Dragon Isles. Over the next millennia, Ironormu traversed the timeways, carrying out his charge as a chronosmith. After the first dwarves emerged from Uldaman, Ironormu realized he missed his earthen friends. After they established the kingdom of Ironforge, Ironormu took on a dwarven form, left the chronosmiths in good order, and decided to retire in Ironforge where he remained for years to come, until the Dragon Isles reawakened and called the dragons home.

When he came back, Ironormu flew over his vault in the mountains and saw it in disarray due to creatures from time rifts from alternate timelines.[1] Temporal Investigator Tempo requested Ironormu to assist him with the problems at Eon's Fringe, but Ironormu did not return to Tempo. When he arrived at his workshop, he found it locked under a time-lock that prevented entry and taken over by fire elementals. At the same time, the murloc Finduin Wryngrrlgulgll of Azmerloth came to him requesting help to repair his sword, Seashellamayne, and an adventurer sent by Tempo was to find the bronze dragon.[2] In order to aid him and break the timelock, Ironus asked the adventurer to recharge his Chronohammer by defeating time-displaced creatures and destroying time rifts at the Passage of Time.[3] Since they were heading that way, Ironus also requested they bring him his possessions from the vault. Once the time rifts would be dealt with, he planned to return them back to his vault.[1] The adventurer returned back with the charged Chronohammer, and Ironormu calculated that it should be them to break the timelock. As the adventurer did it, the forgespawn trapped there emerged and took Finduin's sword out of its hands and flew to the roof of Everywhen Inn, while Slagnaros threatened to destroy Eon's Fringe below. As Ironus entered his workshop, he found his timeforge extinguished, its core taken by Slagnaros.[4]

With the workshop back in his possession, but the timeforge non-functional, Ironus had one last request - to get both, The Heart of the Timeforge and Seashellamayne, from the elementals. The adventurer was successful in defeating the forgespawn and Slagnaros, and retrieving both items. With the Heart, Ironus restored his timeforge and then repaired Seashellamayne. Grateful, Finduin invited Ironus and the adventurer to Azmerloth, but the dragon kindly refused. With his sword restored, Finduin left for Tempo, and Ironormu gave the last remaining fire elemental to the adventurer and granted them access to his old patterns.[5][6]

Gossip[]

Ironforge

Greetings, <race>.

Eon's Fringe

By Nozdormu's chin hair, why is there a timelock on me forge?

Gossip Why is your forge locked behind a timelock?

Would I be standing here if I knew?

Well, probably, as that wouldn't change much.
But it must've been locked after I left the isles. Anything could've happened between ten-thousand years ago and now.
Gossip That makes sense. I had something else to discuss.

Gossip Why is Finduin here?

To get his sword Seashellamayne repaired, of course!
With all of these time rifts tearing into our reality, temporal turbulence is lashing out across the timelines.
By the sound of Finduin's babbling, a rift tore open into Azmerloth and discharged a burst of magic that struck Seashellamayne and tore the blade asunder.
Gossip I'd like to ask something else.
Inside Chronosmith's Forge

First Finduin's sword gets swiped, and now the heart of me timeforge is gone! What a mess.

After completing the questline

Don't forget to check out me wares, <name>. I've got a few spare tools and several timelost patterns.

Gossip Why did you take the visage form of a dwarf?

If I'm being truthful, it wasn't me first choice!
I met the earthen during the construction of the Dragon Isles. A mighty folk! Their dedication to their forges and craft was admirable. So when my visage day came, I chose the form of an earthen.
Seemed especially fitting for a fledgling chronosmith.
Gossip But you're a dwarf, not an earthen.
Well, you have to remember, the earthen buried deep and vanished after the Sundering shook the world.
Lifetimes past as I traversed the timeways, carrying out my charge as a chronosmith. When the time came for a group of fleshy, hairy earthen to emerge from Uldaman, I had forgotten how much I missed me old, long gone friends.
It took them a wee bit to get established. But when they did I took on a dwarven form, left the chronosmiths in good order, and decided to retire in Ironforge.
Before I was called back to the Dragon Isles, that is.
Gossip That makes sense. I had something else to discuss.

Buy Let's see what you've got in stock.

Trainer Train me in the art of Blacksmithing.

Removed from game The subject of this section did not make it out of the PTR stages of patch 10.1.5.

By Nozdormu's chin-hair, why is there a Time-Vortex surrounding my forge?!

Notes and trivia[]

  • Ironormu understands nerglish.
  • Internally, his dragon model is that of a bronze wylderdrake, but it is not seen during the questline.
  • Up until his appearance in Dragonflight, he was believed to be nothing more than the dwarf he appeared to be. It was not until patch 10.1.5 that he was revealed to be a dragon in disguise.
    • In his Thaldraszus appearance, he is not tagged as a Dragonkin.
    • In N [70] The Chronosmith, he is called Irodormu and Ironormu, with the first name seemingly being a typo. During the PTR, his name in Tempo's dialogue was written as Irondormu, but that was changed to Ironormu.
  • He shares the same name as Gringot Coldsteel, another dwarf, who is himself working for Wrathion.
