Forums: Index Warcraft lore New movie name: Rise of the Lich King?

This is essentially like a rumor starting from IMDB, but here is the article from BlizzPlanet: http://www.blizzplanet.com/blog/comments/legendary_pictures_renames_film_to_warcraft_the_rise_of_the_lich_king/

Intriguing, but hard to trust. If this is true, it makes me think there really was no idea for the plot of the movie until recently. Info sure is scarce. --Gengar orange 22x22Beware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 11:07 PM PST 2 Oct 2009

Wowinsider thinks it's fake: http://www.wow.com/2009/10/02/warcraft-movie-subtitled-on-imdb-likely-fake/

IMDB = Fake, unless there is proof elsewhere. If it is true then Blizzard likes Christie Golden too much... Arthas: Rise of the Lich King retconned Warcraft III, now this may retcon Arthas: Rise of the Lich King.Emot-argh--SWM2448 23:23, October 2, 2009 (UTC)
I mistrust this rumor also, but Medievaldragon of Blizzplanet seems to think there is something to it. A few days should shake out the truth from fiction, hopefully. --Gengar orange 22x22Beware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 11:52 PM PST 2 Oct 2009
I wouldn't like it to be Arthas. It's too soon, it's the first movie. It would be like releasing the 3rd part of a trilogy before the 1st and the 2nd. Anyway, I too think there's something around, and while it could not be Arthas, it could be something else.
Or it could be nothing, who knows xDDD.--Lon-ami (talk) 11:52, October 3, 2009 (UTC)

I don't trust IMDB. It's practically the same people who say Harlan Hogan was Thrall in Warcraft III (he wasn't, it was Chris Metzen), James Harper was Zeratul in StarCraft (he wasn't, it was the late Jack Ritschel - and Harper mentioned the confusion at BlizzCon after regaling people with his Arcturus Mengsk voice), and that Tony Jay narrates the opening cinematics for all the new characters (it's Earl Boen, since Tony Jay has been dead for three years by this point). So if anyone buys this, you'll forgive me if I call BS. --Joshmaul (talk) 02:18, October 10, 2009 (UTC)

I thought Blizzard stated that the movie has little, if nothing to do with Arthas. BigstackstwoSignature Bigstackstwo (talk · contr) 23:29, October 11, 2009 (UTC)
According to the article linked from the main page, screenwriter Robert Rodat will be writing "an original story". So yes, Lich King rumor is officially denied. Inv misc orb 04Xavius, the Satyr Lord 10:01, October 15, 2009 (UTC)
Blizzplanet debunked their own rumor:
UPDATE (October 12, 2009)—The IMDB changed back the Warcraft film title to Warcraft and removed the Warcraft: The Rise of the Lich King entry we reported. Additionally, today MTV Movies Blog posted a interview with Sam Raimi who announced Saving Private Ryan writer Robert Rodat has joined the team to develop the script.
You think IMDB would have a little better quality control, but apparently not. --Gengar orange 22x22Beware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 10:45 PM PST 15 Oct 2009

In other news: the latest issue of my local PC Gamer magazine has apparently decided to take IMDb's naming of the movie as a fact. /sigh. Inv misc orb 04Xavius, the Satyr Lord 08:31, November 16, 2009 (UTC)

One of my local magazines too, and I suspect other 2 more are as well announcing the same.
Hell, where do they get sources from? I already sent them an email explaining them how to check sources, hope they learn the lesson -_-.--Lon-ami (talk) 12:27, November 16, 2009 (UTC)

Confirmed, it's false. The film will not centre around the Lich King. BobNamataki (talk) 18:00, November 19, 2009 (UTC)
