Freezing Arrow is a Hunter ability, learned at level 80 for an unknown cost.
It works as a ranged [Freezing Trap], making it easier for hunters to lay down traps in order to crowd control.
Strategy
Some people may not be able to appreciate the value of this ability in addition to [Freezing Trap] at the first sight. In fact, it eases the task of trapping greatly in some situations.
- Trapping caster/ranged mobs was harder for hunters in the past because we needed to use "line of sight" method to pull the mobs to the trap. Freezing Arrow is the perfect solution in this situation. Those mobs usually stand still and cast/shoot from a distance. Simply fire a Freezing Arrow at their feet will do the trick.
- It can be combined with [Misdirection] when pulling. Cast Misdirection on the tank first, then fire a Freezing Arrow at the feet of the mob you want to trap. The other untrapped mobs will then run to the tank because of the effect of Misdirection.
- When using it to trap a melee mob without pulling, fire the arrow at the path that you expect the mob will take. When the tank pulls, the melee mob will run toward the tank and trigger the trap.
- Sometimes in the middle of a fight when you need to trap/retrap a mob some distance away, you can use Freezing Arrow to do the job. This way you do not need to run to the mob or taunt it.
- Advantages of Freezing Arrow comparing to CC of other classes:
- It is an instant cast.
- You do not need to change target when trapping.
- Disadvantages:
- Usually cannot chain-trap the mobs as the duration of the trap is shorter than Freezing Arrow's cooldown.
- Need slightly more skill to setup the trap at the correct location.
