Revision as of 12:18, 9 July 2009

MobGarwal
Image of Garwal
Gender Male
Race(s) Worg / Worgen (Beast)
Level 71
Reaction Alliance Horde
Location Howling Fjord

Garwal is a level 71 worgen who is currently hiding in a worg form in western Rivenwood in the Howling Fjord. Managing to trick Ulfang's brothers, Garwal quickly became the alpha worg for reasons unknown. Eating Talonshrike's eyes will allow that person to see even through the unnatural magic that Garwal uses to make him invisible to all.

Objective of

Needs to be slain for the quests:

He will morph into a worgen halfway through the fight, exclaiming: "Enough of this charade!".

Notes

Before it was hotfixed on July 7, 2009, hunters could tame him as a wolf pet, even while he is in worgen form. Although he will return to his wolf form even if he is in worgen form.

The following strategy is provided for historical purposes only.

Taming Garwal

Garwal

Garwal in his tamed worgen form.

Before July 7th, 2009, if you time your tame beast to end exactly when he transforms at 50%, he will stay in his transformed form, giving you an exclusive worgen pet. Please note that you must be on the quest asking you to kill him in order to see him.

Taming Garwal to keep him as a worgen:

  • Make sure you have Inv spear 02 [Wyvern Sting].
  • Dps Garwal down to around 54% and then Inv spear 02 [Wyvern Sting] him. Be careful not to dps him down too much, because if he hits 50% before you Wyvern Sting him, he'll transform too soon and you'll have to start over.
  • Watch the timer on Wyvern Sting and try to hit Ability hunter beasttaming [Tame Beast] as close to 14 seconds as you can. You do this so that the dot left after Wyvern Sting ends will push Garwal to 50% or below right when Tame Beast ends.
  • If done right, when Tame Beast ends, Garwal will have transformed and you'll have yourself a worgen pet.

Note that this is a bug, and Blizzard has stated that it was unintended and plans to remove the ability for him to be tamed in worgen form, but we don't know if hunters will get to keep him.

Also beware, taking your new worgen into an arena will cause him to revert back to his wolf form permanently, however battlegrounds are safe.

Future of Garwal the pet

Final resolution of this issue is still outstanding. Although a hotfix has been put in place.

Q: People have been creating threads left and right for whether blizzard is going to remove the pet from those who tamed it, or just make it not able to be tamed. What's the stance on this? Can we get at least a "We're currently discussing this issue"?

Re: Worgen pet - what is its fate? | 2009-07-07 01:32 | Blizzard Entertainment Zarhym

As you put it Zennie, we are currently discussing this issue.

It is not intended that Garwal can be tamed while in worgen form and will be addressed via a hotfix in the near future. When we have determined how to handle situations where hunters have already tamed Garwal we will let you know.

Additionally, since the hotfix Garwal, even those that are not in worgen form, is no longer considered a 'pet' by the game, he has no talent tree, special abilities, or scaling. He also cannot be fed, meaning the only way to keep him happy is by having Glyph of Mend Pet. This crippling of Garwal seems to be the final solution that Blizzard has taken on the issue, resulting in Garwal to be nothing more then a trophy pet.

For those that had Garwal in worg form they can still tame other worgs of the same skin color such as Spearfang Worgs.
