For the object, see Gnomish Cloaking Device (Storm Peaks).
Inv gizmo 01

The Gnomish Cloaking Device is a trinket that can be crafted by engineers.

Source[]

This item is created with Engineering (200); taught by Inv scroll 03 [Schematic: Gnomish Cloaking Device].

Materials required:
Inv misc pocketwatch 02 4x [Gyrochronatom] Inv misc gem stone 01 2x [Jade]
Inv misc gem crystal 01 2x [Lesser Moonstone] Inv misc gem opal 02 2x [Citrine]
Inv misc gear 03 1x [Fused Wiring]

In the RPG[]

Icon-RPG This section contains information from the Warcraft RPG which is considered non-canon.

The harnessing of chaos energy has given tinkers a more level playing field when dealing with a world of arcane magic. This technology is new and dangerous, and isn’t seen in many devices, but it shows up in unlikely places.

The gnomish cloaking device doesn’t need to be a cloak, necessarily, but the tinker that created it had a flair for style. To all eyes it is a stylish, gray woolen cloak, but the chaos generator is hidden in a small box that is woven into the cloak at the base of the neck and connected by a thin wire to the brooch that clasps the cloak at the shoulder.

When the wearer pushes a button set into the brooch (often hidden) the chaos generator revs up and the molecules in the air around the wearer begin to vibrate at a rate that causes the user to appear to become invisible.[1]

Notes[]

  • Despite its name, it does not require Gnomish Engineering to make or use.
  • Useful for escaping an approaching enemy or sneaking up on one that hasn't seen you yet.
  • While invisible you can only see other invisible players and players that can see invisible players.
  • Because of point three, using it for the latter part of point two needs a good sense of direction and distance (not to mention a spot of luck!).
  • Unlike most other devices made by engineers, such as Inv gizmo 08 [Gnomish Death Ray] and Spell nature lightningoverload [Gnomish Lightning Generator], this one does not have any possible failure mechanics.

Patch changes[]

  • WoW Icon update Patch 1.12.0 (2006-08-22): Fixed a bug that was causing Spell frost frost [Ice Block] to trigger a 5 minute cooldown on the Gnomish Cloaking Device.
