I'm having trouble with some editors on the [[Template:Nexus]]. It links [[Malygos (tactics)]] as [[<nowiki>Malygos (tactics)|Malygos</nowiki>]]. A very difficult distinction from [[Malygos]], an article had read previously looking for a strategy. I thought to make the distinction more clear I'd change it to something like [[Malygos]] ([[Malygos (tactics)|tactics]]). Every time I make the change or try to find a better way to clarify it, someone reverts it. The revert comments have been like, "editors can hover their mouse" or "once they click through they'll realize" or "[[Template:The Eye of Eternity]] takes care of this" when in fact [[Template:The Eye of Eternity]] does the same thing with [[Malygos]] and is not readily available unless you click show and look for 'lore'. I understand their possessiveness over the templates, but clearly not making the distinction only hurts the wiki and I see no down side to adding the two links as I proposed or any other solution. Any thoughts [[User:Mkdw|<span style="font-size: 13px arial; color: #3366FF;">Mkdw</span>]][[User talk:Mkdw|<sup>''talk''</sup>]] 08:23, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

:I have a question for you... you say you went to [[Malygos]] accidentally when looking for a strategy, right? From this template? So rather than click the link, you typed it in, not realizing a ''(tactics)'' is included? {{User:Coobra/Sig3}} 08:30, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

::I went to [[Eye of Eternity]] which looked like [http://www.wowpedia.org/index.php?title=Eye_of_Eternity&oldid=1722130 this] when I first clicked it. No mention of strategy, so I clicked [[Malygos]] on the top which led me to the lore section. I ignored the other Malygos' on the EoE page because I assumed they went to the same place because... well it did say it. So I began to write a strategy for it until someone reverted my edits and in their comment mentioned [[Malygos (tactics)]] AND that time they didn't retitled it. Low and behold I clicked it knowing it was different than [[Malygos]]. Now that was so much easier than [[Malygos]] ([[Malygos (tactics)|tactics]])... :::Ah, ok so the first linked maly went to the lore page, but Gourra attempted to fix the link, which you undid... then I undid your undid cause it shouldn't have been a see also thing when it was supposed to be the main thing. But I changed it back and made the strategy pop out more than just see also. Which unless someone else undoes that, I think it can stay like that. {{User:Coobra/Sig3}} 08:59, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

::::I see you're running into the same problem I was having. Someone has redone your work and yet again it says [[Malygos]] and [[Malygos (tactics)|Malygos]]. The section Mobs doesn't clarify whether its a strategy or lore. So Malygos appears 5 times on the article (2 of which go to lore), but you'd never know which goes where unless you hover. I'm sure most editors are like me in that they don't hover every link they click. They see Naxx they'll click it. They see a boss name in the Naxx article, they'll click it. Personally what you did before was better and if indeed the article name has the word tactics in it, which it does, then why can't the link reflect that? The reason tactics is in the article name is to distinguish itself from the article [[Malygos]] instead of calling it 'Malygos 2'. There seems to be some stigma that it's a sin to leave the article name in and retitle it making it more confusing and inconvenient. Retitles were meant to make the article more clear for readers if the article title didn't do that in the context of where the link was being used. Not for aesthetic purposes. I thought the point of the '''''Undocumented changes''''' page was to document what was missing from the official patch notes? How do you know what people want / do not want to see in them? I know of many people who want to know when new mounts and pets come out because they collect them - and I as a tailor like to know what new Recipies I will be able to make? The whole purpose of a wiki is for all to be able to add stuff (known to be true) to the wiki - why would anyone contribute if YOU keep removing things from them becaue You think no one wants to see that info (and I put the TOC to the right because it allowed for more information to be shown on the screen without makeing the page Scroll forever (since no text can be shown to the right of the current TOC (but {{t|tocright}} moves the TOC to the right and allows text to be displayed next to it on the left (taking up less space) - your way is Resctictive / Censored (to the contributors) and wasteful of page space -- ( [[User:Jrooksjr |<font color="#306ac9" face="Lucida Calligraphy" title="Ikariam Bureaucrat">'''''Morph'''''</font>]] | [[Special:Contributions/jrooksjr|Contribs]] | [[User talk:Jrooksjr|Talk]] ) 01:44, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

== Deleted Guild Page without notice or explanation, Attn: Pcj ==
  +
  +
Hello, I represent the WoW Guild "Wicked Tribe" on the Doomhammer US server in World of Warcraft, and would like for our Wiki article to be fully restored as soon as possible. It was deleted without comment or notice, either by mistake or malice, by "Pcj" according to the e-mail notice dated 2-25-09, and was linked to from this page: http://www.wowpedia.org/Server:Doomhammer_US, as are many of the other guilds.
  +
  +
The article was drafted to inform other WoW players of our history, structure, and principles, and was edited by another Admin already once who provided additional formatting and tags, and there is no reason that it should have been deleted in this manner.
  +
  +
It is not unreasonable to expect a reply within 48 hours, based on the number of posts here, and evidently deleting guild pages is not something Pcj normally does.

Thanks in advance for your help.

:I didn't add any categories that would make the article categorized. --{{User:Gourra/Sig2}} 08:46, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
  +
  +
You didn't bother to summarize the changes either, nor include any remark about the two missing categories, so how was the author to know? At the time the article was written there was nothing which was intuitively found in wiki's [[Wowpedia:Policies|policies]] or [[Wowpedia:Guidelines|guidelines]] which directed one to read your full guild article tos, specifically with regards to "missing categories" (we just copied the form of what was an acceptible guild article at the time), and given the number of guilds which have had similar article structure it would be more time efficient for everyone moving forward for WoWWiki to include some warning before articles are deleted, and we wind up here.
  +
  +
Naturally you both may disagree, and evidently neither of you intend to be helpful and restore our page so that these two lines can be added: Categories Horde Guilds, and PvE guilds. One can take for granted that it would have to be rewrittetn from scratch, and that through warningless policy changes in the future others may likely find some other reason to delete it.
  +
  +
If being an Admin is merely the power to exercise brevity, you both excel at it.
  +
  +
Forgive me for expecting more.

:You obviously saw what Gourra put on your page, maybe you should have read it. See {{t|Stub/Guild}} for what it says. I will restore it if you apologize for lying about the guild policies not being fully in place at the time you created the page and for expecting us to neglect the policy for you. --{{User:Pcj/sig}} 22:55, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
  +
  +
I will not apologise to you or anyone else for "lying," and I accuse you of gross misconduct since you are apt to bend policy on the condition of receiving an apology to which you are not entitled; rather than to just restore it by request on the condition that the article be changed to fit into the two extra categories you very reluctantly called my attention to.
  +
  +
The [[Wowpedia:Policies|policies]] and [[Wowpedia:Guidelines|guidelines]] to which I linked were indeed read by me when I made an account and before publishing, and I followed the template of an already existing guild article, and in fact read the WW:Guild policies upon your stunted "See WW:Guild" reply. You gave no indication what was wrong with it until after that time, and despite the evidence that another Admin had seen our Guild Article and had edited it without comment, you cut me no slack for trying to understand what had happened or what was wrong, or for trying to comply.
  +
  +
You aren't simply unhelpful, you are ''complexedly'' so.
  +
  +
And I know even better now what not to ask for.

  +
  +
  +
I have shown a willingness and readiness to follow policies which are clear and abundantly available, generally and specifically with regards to the "improper categorization" which you had to be prodded to identify (in our Guild's case, it is still assumed- simply missing "Horde Guilds" and "PvE Guilds" tags), so you are intentionally mischaracterising our discourse and disparaging me personally.
  +
  +
As an Administrator who has demanded an apology from me to which you are not due, and will not receive, and who has selectively and contingently enforced policy, it is bare naked that you make no apologies of any sort; even if you could not conduct your affairs any less charitably, civily, or diligently.
  +
  +
Upon checking our guild link again, our article still has not been restored as well-requested three times before, and that I will not be given the opportunity to "follow policy" and to correct any categorization problems with the original copy.
  +
  +
You have refrained from any and all assistance deliberately, and exercised the worst discretion imaginable.
  +
  +
That- is thoroughly sorry.

So it appears that I am not a lone complainant in this category. On March 12, 2009 I too received notice that my guild's wowwiki page had been deleted without notice or reason. Realm Fenris, Guild Disciples of the Light. It seem unfortunate for my smaller raiding guild and these fine guilds above that our sites were seemingly indiscriminately marked for deletion for reasons unknown. As a user/editor I would very much like to know what policies our site so neglectfully omitted/contained as to merit a full unrecoverable deletion. Seems to me an administrator of a site dedicated to a Game intended for light-hearted recreation, you would treat this position as a similar source of recreation. Please look to your position in this fashion, Pcj, and to the fundamental reason for this site's purpose of diversion and merriment, and not of scorn, retaliation, or as your last reply seems to indicate, threat.

== question about deleted page Template:User_Loremaster_(continent) ==
  +
  +
i created a couple Template:User_Loremaster_(continent) entries... i think it were [[Template:User_Loremaster]] , [[Template:User_Loremaster_Outland]] , [[Template:User_Loremaster_Northrend]] ,[[Template:User_Loremaster_Kalimdor]] & [[Template:User_Loremaster_EasternKingdom]] .. since i felt they were missing from the collection (and since i wanted to use them) .. but now (some?) they are gone ?!! , granted they could have been better and i had copied the concept but at least used the correct image and links and all that nice stuff.. so i ask myself, why are they deleted ? did your bot catch them since i made the final 3 in a short timespan of each other ? or is there a other reason? :: ahhh.. i noticed about 30 seconds ago as well , i thought you deleted it since i had a 'old but containing more' preview of my user page open in background and that showed the templates as broken ; but i had changed enough that i did't want to just refresh straight away. .. so i carefully looked in a new window where the template had gone and all i found was the line that it was deleted.. but after a while noticed that my user page still had it. which confused me all the more... and thats when i found out what really happened ... anyway, thanks :) .. good idea too, that {{t|User achievement}} [[CoZ]] 03:48, 14 March 2009 (UTC)

I started and postponed/failed misserable to come up with a template that was supposed to end up having the same functionality/feel as the ingame achievement panel
  +
or , in simple terms, i wanted to see if its possible to create a more browse friendly template/navigation thingy. .
  +
  +
the current World of Warcraft achievements navigation tool is too limited, and the overviews of the individual category's like [[Player_vs._Player_achievements]] give in my opinion a slight information overflow if you just want to browse the achievements.

Yesterday, you deleted the subpage "Smokywood_Pastures/Feast_of_Winter_Veil_lower_value_goods_vendors". Is there a way I could see the content of that page? It was transcluded into over a dozen other pages which mostly have red links now, and I'd like to take a look at the content and see if I can come up with a fix, probably an appropriate public template. --

== Tooltip quirkiness ==
  +
  +
Hi. I have been noticing a few quirks with tooltips under various browsers, and was told this would be an appropriate place to mention them. Mostly, the issue I experience is that tooltips for quests and categories (the one that indicates if the category is empty or has pages/subcategories) get positioned under the cursor in certain cases. There are a few examples I can mention. One is the Reputation Quests table on the [[Sons of Hodir]] page. If the browser window is small enough, the popup appears under the cursor, preventing the user from clicking on the quest. Sometimes the popup is just below the cursor, but most often the cursor seems to end up at the middle of the right edge. Further down the page, where rep items are listed, there is no problem, as the item popup is displayed further to the left of the cursor. I noticed this issue in Firefox 3.0.0.6, 3.0.0.7, Internet Explorer 8 with and without Compatibility Mode, and Google Chrome.
  +
  +
The other quirk can be seen on [[:Category:Things to do]], with the categories in the rightmost column. In Firefox, the tooltip flickers, and is hard to view. In Chrome, it is positioned below the mouse, preventing clicks. And in Internet Explorer 8, the tooltips don't display at all. {{unsigned|Wige}}

Fixed tooltip positioning should work skin independantly and across all browsers except IE6. Fix is based on using of positioning:fixed for tooltip positioning and clientX/clientY for mouse coordinates. == MatureAssKickers stub/guild ==
  +
  +
I saw that you'd tagged [[Guild:MatureAssKickers (Bleeding Hollow US)]] and wanted to verify what caused that. Is it because the name is not in the armory? At one time that was the guild's name, but apparently someone complained and Blizzard asked for a rename. (It was our name since 2000 for another game, Tribes 2, and we brought it with us into WoW. We're mostly a bunch of older guys.) So we changed it to < M A > (space, M, space, A, space). I've put that name as a comment on the realm page. I suppose I should add this info to the history section of our guild page. What's the best course of action to deal with the stub tag? Rename pages and links? Or keep the name and add a redirect from the in-game abbreviated name? -- [[User:ScratchMonkey|ScratchMonkey]] ([[User talk:ScratchMonkey|talk]]) 17:52, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

(I was a member of MA the multi-game team long before it played WoW, but didn't start playing WoW until long after others on the team had to deal with Blizzard's naming policy. I was wondering if the zebra table class was ready for use. I know when you first created a prototype there were some issues with it (I think the stripes vanished when you reloaded the page). The only issue I can see now is that the striping loses its alternation when you re-sort the table. i.e. row colours sort with the row content rather than remaining true to the row number, but perhaps this is intended. However, I'm not sure how I can source it, and since this is a new contributor to a more experienced one, I'm hoping you can explain. :Yeah, there are a bunch of things (mostly involving the table formatting) which don't happen when AJAX is loaded. I've been trying to port the tooltips function to a blank test wiki and it's not really working. If you could list the things that need to be done that would be great. You don't even have to explain what things are, I'll look it all up; just a basic outline of the things that need doing to get the tooltips working would be fantastic.

I am an admin on the Cyber Nations Wiki, which uses a version of your AJAX auto-refresher for RecentChanges and Watchlist. It very suddenly ceased working on our wiki yesterday, despie the fact it continues to work fine on Wookieepedia and the WoW Wiki. == Deletion of Noble Elite Guard guild information ==
  +
  +
Hello,
  +
I'd like to ask why you don't allow some time for us to properly setup our guild page [[Guild:Noble_Elite_Guard_(Quel'Thalas_EU)]]. Isn't there some wait time allowed so our members can edit it to comply with Policies etc? I am not a wiki-guru and cannot edit the guild page for 100% the moment it's created, but this way you don't even allow a few days for me to shape it up. Not to mention that the history also gets deleted every time the guild page is deleted so it's 1. start over from scratch 2. don't bother with wowwiki? I would expect at least a little tolerance in this matter.
  +
Thanks for the explanation.

When you have the time, would you examine my hack to get {{t|Ajax}} to correctly display [[Grandmaster tailoring patterns]] on the [[Tailoring patterns]] page? Ajax was not respecting <nowiki><onlyinclude></nowiki> tags, so I had to work around it. It's ugly, but I would regret even more having to make the [[Grandmaster tailoring patterns]] page into a table that can't be categorized and annotated individually. --[[User:Eirik Ratcatcher|Eirik Ratcatcher]] ([[User talk:Eirik Ratcatcher|talk]]) 22:01, October 1, 2009 (UTC)

::and then have ''Template:Patch 1.10'' call up a common template for display, with the correct date. It also avoids the long switch statement that can become a performace bottleneck (although it would probably need to become quite a bit larger for that to be noticeable). --<span class="sigpic">[[User:M.mendel|◄mendel►]]</span> 15:52, October 3, 2009 (UTC)

I find that I disagree with you, Pcj, in this instance, at least to some extent. Clearly, all links in the navbox are links to existing wiki pages (or they wouldn't be links). While there is a general prohibition on "complete list of guild members", I don't see a prohibition on "links to all pages relevant to the guild". I rather thought that the prohibition was intended to prevent long, unmaintained (and difficult to maintain) lists that were not of use to the general public.
  +
  +
An alternative might be a server/guild-space specific category, to which the guild page could link. I'm not clear on how one would set one up, though.

Disclaimer: I haven't seen the guild page, nor any of the individual character pages. Having content on the character pages (which presumably would be under [[:Category:Player characters]]) created by their respective players would strengthen the case; having stubs created by a single author would weaken it. --[[User:Eirik Ratcatcher|Eirik Ratcatcher]] ([[User talk:Eirik Ratcatcher|talk]]) 21:32, October 5, 2009 (UTC)

Template:Nexus

I'm having trouble with some editors on the Template:Nexus. It links Malygos (tactics) as [[Malygos (tactics)|Malygos]]. A very difficult distinction from Malygos, an article had read previously looking for a strategy. I thought to make the distinction more clear I'd change it to something like Malygos (tactics). Every time I make the change or try to find a better way to clarify it, someone reverts it. The revert comments have been like, "editors can hover their mouse" or "once they click through they'll realize" or "Template:The Eye of Eternity takes care of this" when in fact Template:The Eye of Eternity does the same thing with Malygos and is not readily available unless you click show and look for 'lore'. I understand their possessiveness over the templates, but clearly not making the distinction only hurts the wiki and I see no down side to adding the two links as I proposed or any other solution. Any thoughts Mkdwtalk 08:23, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

I have a question for you... you say you went to Malygos accidentally when looking for a strategy, right? From this template? So rather than click the link, you typed it in, not realizing a (tactics) is included? User:CoobraSssssssssssssssssssssssss User:CoobraFor Pony! {TDon't hiss at me.CIf you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all.) 08:30, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
I went to Eye of Eternity which looked like this when I first clicked it. No mention of strategy, so I clicked Malygos on the top which led me to the lore section. I ignored the other Malygos' on the EoE page because I assumed they went to the same place because... well it did say it. So I began to write a strategy for it until someone reverted my edits and in their comment mentioned Malygos (tactics) AND that time they didn't retitled it. Low and behold I clicked it knowing it was different than Malygos. Now that was so much easier than Malygos (tactics)... Mkdwtalk 08:41, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
Ah, ok so the first linked maly went to the lore page, but Gourra attempted to fix the link, which you undid... then I undid your undid cause it shouldn't have been a see also thing when it was supposed to be the main thing. But I changed it back and made the strategy pop out more than just see also. Which unless someone else undoes that, I think it can stay like that. User:CoobraSssssssssssssssssssssssss User:CoobraFor Pony! {TDon't hiss at me.CIf you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all.) 08:59, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
I see you're running into the same problem I was having. Someone has redone your work and yet again it says Malygos and Malygos. The reason tactics is in the article name is to distinguish itself from the article Malygos instead of calling it 'Malygos 2'. There seems to be some stigma that it's a sin to leave the article name in and retitle it making it more confusing and inconvenient. Retitles were meant to make the article more clear for readers if the article title didn't do that in the context of where the link was being used. Not for aesthetic purposes. Mkdwtalk 19:41, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
Please take this discussion to the template talk page. The link should be [[Malygos (tactics)|Malygos]], since this is a navigation template between instances, not a division of lore. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 20:00, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

Removal of changes from Patch 3.1.0 (undocumented changes) - I thought the point was to document the undocumented

I thought the point of the Undocumented changes page was to document what was missing from the official patch notes? How do you know what people want / do not want to see in them? I know of many people who want to know when new mounts and pets come out because they collect them - and I as a tailor like to know what new Recipies I will be able to make? The whole purpose of a wiki is for all to be able to add stuff (known to be true) to the wiki - why would anyone contribute if YOU keep removing things from them becaue You think no one wants to see that info (and I put the TOC to the right because it allowed for more information to be shown on the screen without makeing the page Scroll forever (since no text can be shown to the right of the current TOC (but {{tocright}} moves the TOC to the right and allows text to be displayed next to it on the left (taking up less space) - your way is Resctictive / Censored (to the contributors) and wasteful of page space -- ( Morph | Contribs | Talk ) 01:44, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

Deleted Guild Page without notice or explanation, Attn: Pcj

Hello, I represent the WoW Guild "Wicked Tribe" on the Doomhammer US server in World of Warcraft, and would like for our Wiki article to be fully restored as soon as possible. It was deleted without comment or notice, either by mistake or malice, by "Pcj" according to the e-mail notice dated 2-25-09, and was linked to from this page: http://www.wowpedia.org/Server:Doomhammer_US, as are many of the other guilds.

The article was drafted to inform other WoW players of our history, structure, and principles, and was edited by another Admin already once who provided additional formatting and tags, and there is no reason that it should have been deleted in this manner.

It is not unreasonable to expect a reply within 48 hours, based on the number of posts here, and evidently deleting guild pages is not something Pcj normally does.

Dear Jakalecax,

There has been an edit to a page you are watching on WoWWiki.

No edit summary was given

--Jakalecax (talk) 01:24, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

I didn't add any categories that would make the article categorized. --g0urra[T҂C] 08:46, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

You didn't bother to summarize the changes either, nor include any remark about the two missing categories, so how was the author to know? At the time the article was written there was nothing which was intuitively found in wiki's policies or guidelines which directed one to read your full guild article tos, specifically with regards to "missing categories" (we just copied the form of what was an acceptible guild article at the time), and given the number of guilds which have had similar article structure it would be more time efficient for everyone moving forward for WoWWiki to include some warning before articles are deleted, and we wind up here.

If being an Admin is merely the power to exercise brevity, you both excel at it.

Forgive me for expecting more.

--Jakalecax (talk) 22:36, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

You obviously saw what Gourra put on your page, maybe you should have read it. See {{Stub/Guild}} for what it says. I will restore it if you apologize for lying about the guild policies not being fully in place at the time you created the page and for expecting us to neglect the policy for you. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 22:55, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

The policies and guidelines to which I linked were indeed read by me when I made an account and before publishing, and I followed the template of an already existing guild article, and in fact read the WW:Guild policies upon your stunted "See WW:Guild" reply. You gave no indication what was wrong with it until after that time, and despite the evidence that another Admin had seen our Guild Article and had edited it without comment, you cut me no slack for trying to understand what had happened or what was wrong, or for trying to comply.

You aren't simply unhelpful, you are complexedly so.

And I know even better now what not to ask for.

And from whom.

--Jakalecax (talk) 17:42, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

If you cannot follow policy, I cannot help you. As an administrator, I am enforcing policy, and I make no apology for it. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 19:09, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

As an Administrator who has demanded an apology from me to which you are not due, and will not receive, and who has selectively and contingently enforced policy, it is bare naked that you make no apologies of any sort; even if you could not conduct your affairs any less charitably, civily, or diligently.

Upon checking our guild link again, our article still has not been restored as well-requested three times before, and that I will not be given the opportunity to "follow policy" and to correct any categorization problems with the original copy.

You have refrained from any and all assistance deliberately, and exercised the worst discretion imaginable.

That- is thoroughly sorry.

--Jakalecax (talk) 21:36, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

Please discontinue this harassment or I will take measures to ensure that you do. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 21:40, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
I would like to point out that you can simply recreate the guild page to comply with policy, but restoring the deleted page is entirely at my discretion. Sorry. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 21:50, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

Preferences/extension issue

Morning! I was planning on switching on a new addition today called user badges (see the announcement on [1]), but when I tried it out, it seemed to destroy the tooltips tab in the preferences window. Is that due to changing the number of preference tabs? Is it a quick fix? Thanks Kirkburn  talk  contr 00:39, 7 March 2009 (UTC)

How does the tooltips thing work now? Found Wowpedia:Tooltips, cool :) Btw, we're also having some problems with the main page loading - do you know of any changes in the past few days that might have caused that? Not to accuse you, but we're getting kinda stuck finding a possible reason atm :s Did you change any caching stuff? Kirkburn  talk  contr 00:52, 12 March 2009 (UTC)
Looks like it was the WoW Insider RSS feed instead, which I've removed for now. We're going to look into why that had such a catastrophic effect. Kirkburn  talk  contr 01:13, 12 March 2009 (UTC)

Lords of War (Eitrigg US) sub page removal

Why did you remove the supbage {{[[Template::Lords of War (Eitrigg US)/Guild Stats|:Lords of War (Eitrigg US)/Guild Stats]]}}? - I put all the information you require on it:

2nd and then {{speedydelete}} if it is not corrected -- You should show some sence of Inteligece and Explain things - not everyone can read your mind - and who knows someone may have MISSED a rule -- all you have to do is say see the section on <section> so we can fix it - YOU do not give anyone a chance to fix anything -- you just DELETE -( Morph | Contribs | Talk ) 17:47, 7 March 2009 (UTC)

For whatever reason, it produced a page that was named "/Guild stats" (when it should have been produced "Guild:X (Y US)/Guild stats, but that looks like a bug)... which obviously is a bad way to name it. --Sky (t · c · w) 18:10, 7 March 2009 (UTC)
And a bug in Wikia's Software warrants the right to not Explain anything ?? How was I to know it did not show up correctly in your reports because the page it made the page properly ( it just did NOT show up on your end properly )) - that is NOT my fault that Wikia had a bug - and I should have been told why it was deleted - no matter what - we do deserver that ( SMALL ) amount of information - and as stated before - he was supposed to 1 Tag it with {{Stub/Guild}} for 30 days and then {{speedydelete}} if it is not corrected ( or the very least - heaven forbid he could have moved it to the right place ) -- but no mater what asking him to put a explanation is not asking too much - ( Morph | Contribs | Talk ) 18:40, 7 March 2009 (UTC)

question about deleted page Template:User_Loremaster_(continent)

i created a couple Template:User_Loremaster_(continent) entries... i think it were Template:User_Loremaster , Template:User_Loremaster_Outland , Template:User_Loremaster_Northrend ,Template:User_Loremaster_Kalimdor & Template:User_Loremaster_EasternKingdom .. since i felt they were missing from the collection (and since i wanted to use them) .. but now (some?) they are gone ?!! , granted they could have been better and i had copied the concept but at least used the correct image and links and all that nice stuff.. so i ask myself, why are they deleted ? did your bot catch them since i made the final 3 in a short timespan of each other ? or is there a other reason? ohh .. one other thing .. I started and postponed/failed misserable to come up with a template that was supposed to end up having the same functionality/feel as the ingame achievement panel or , in simple terms, i wanted to see if its possible to create a more browse friendly template/navigation thingy. .

the current World of Warcraft achievements navigation tool is too limited, and the overviews of the individual category's like Player_vs._Player_achievements give in my opinion a slight information overflow if you just want to browse the achievements.

Is there already something alike in development?

Works flawlessly. A few more questions though if I may... I notice here that your Portal:Main does not show a header telling you the page name. How was that done? Also, should I add a simple redirect from Main Page to Portal:Main? Or is there another way to state what page is the main page in settings somewhere? — Rappy talk 21:07, 21 March 2009 (UTC)
Hopefully this is the last time I bother you. For some reason, when navigating to the main page without {{{portal}}} being set, it is defaulting to Burnout 2, when it should be Burnout Paradise. Would you mind checking the code to see if it is your error or mine? I can't seem to find it. Also, is there a way to take the focus away from the tab you just clicked? It's surrounded by a orange box once you click it. — Rappy talk 22:33, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

Tooltip quirkiness

One is the Reputation Quests table on the Sons of Hodir page.

The other quirk can be seen on Category:Things to do, with the categories in the rightmost column. In Firefox, the tooltip flickers, and is hard to view. In Chrome, it is positioned below the mouse, preventing clicks. And in Internet Explorer 8, the tooltips don't display at all. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Wige (talk · contr).

I'll look at it. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 18:58, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
Hi, I found this issue too and reported about it here http://www.wowpedia.org/Template_talk:Coords#Coord_template_bug_with_overlapping. I was able to fix it for russian wiki, you can see fix here http://ru.wow.wikia.com/wiki/%D0%A3%D1%87%D0%B0%D1%81%D1%82%D0%BD%D0%B8%D0%BA:Fairax_nme/monaco.js. Fixed tooltip positioning should work skin independantly and across all browsers except IE6. Fix is based on using of positioning:fixed for tooltip positioning and clientX/clientY for mouse coordinates. Fairax (talk) 10:54, September 26, 2009 (UTC)

Elders of Turalyon Removal

I'm unclear as to why a page (The Elders of Turalyon (Turalyon US)) was deleted? The page had relevant information that's only issue was that it was the target of vandals.

The page was fine.

Is it policy to remove pages when we simply feel like they aren't worth monitoring for random acts of childishness? Isn't this just kowtowing to those immature people who would do such a thing in the first place?

Welcome tool fixed

Hi! I got your e-mail about the welcome tool. There was a problem with the welcomes for a couple hours this morning... I'm glad you caught it and switched out @latest. We figured out what the problem was -- we're trying to add one more piece of customization, but the tweak didn't work right. It's fixed now, so I'll switch MediaWiki:Welcome-user back to @latest.

So -- sorry about the confusion -- this is always the way it goes with brand-new features; you have momentary bumps along the way. If you see any more problems with it, please let me know! -- Danny (talk) 21:12, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

MatureAssKickers stub/guild

I saw that you'd tagged Guild:MatureAssKickers (Bleeding Hollow US) and wanted to verify what caused that. -- ScratchMonkey (talk) 17:52, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

Is there anything special I need to do to deal with the spaces bracketing the in-game name? Should it be Guild: M A (Bleeding Hollow US) (double space after the "A")? It looks like the Wiki code is going to remove the bracketing spaces, which will likely put us back in the same situation. (This also caused trouble with our WoWRoster software, and I had to get a code fix for that.) -- ScratchMonkey (talk) 18:18, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

I do apologize for the naming scheme. That was done before I joined the guild and volunteered to write a wiki page for it, and I completely sympathize with the problems it's causing. As a programmer myself, I detest spaces in filenames, and leading and trailing significant spaces are particularly abhorrent. (I was a member of MA the multi-game team long before it played WoW, but didn't start playing WoW until long after others on the team had to deal with Blizzard's naming policy. Your thoughts on alternating color row table javascript

Take a look at w:Forum:Alternative row colors in a table. Should we try using a variation of that javascript on WoWWiki? It seems a little awkward (needing an outside div), but it would help with alot of our tables if it works okay. --Gengar orange 22x22Beware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 5:06 PM PST 24 Apr 2009

guild page deletion

I'd like to know why exactly you deleted my guilds page Eudaemonia (talk) 23:17, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

Which guild page? --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 23:20, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
http://www.wowpedia.org/Guild:Vortex_(Nathrezim_US)Eudaemonia (talk) 23:26, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
It did not have required categorization per WP:GUILD. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 23:29, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
It is exactly the same format as our other guild page located here: http://www.wowpedia.org/Guild:Vortex_(Terokkar_US) so perhaps you could be a bit more specific about what exactly isn't meeting the guidelines. Also - I'd like it restored since I had no previous notice that there was anthing wrong with it. The page has been there for quite a long time so this is rather out of the blue to be deciding it doesn't meet some criteria this late after creation. Eudaemonia (talk) 00:32, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
Your other page has the correct categorization. Look in "Categories" at the bottom of the page. Also see the WP:GUILD for how notification of guild stubbing is handled. I will restore your page if you will categorize it correctly. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 00:37, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
That seems a bit excessive to delete something because it said raiding guild instead of pve guild. In any case it's corrected. I'd suggest to you that perhaps you should review your deletion process however. After reviewing your page of talk comments, it seems to be a common issue that you are getting complaints about deleting guilds pages.... I would have fixed the issue if I had known it was one to start with (which seems to be the general "theme" in your past discussions with people)Eudaemonia (talk) 02:15, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

tooltip for buffs/debuffs

Hi, fandyllic said i should talk to you about a way to do mouse-over tooltip popups for buffs and debuffs. Is that implemented yet as a template or is there some other way i can do it?

There is nothing like that available. Give me an example of what you are looking for. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 22:13, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

Like this Frostmourne but for spells effects, buffs and debuffs. Basically if you look at the buff

pages (like Ability warrior battleshout [Battle Shout]) they use the "Infobox ability" template. The first thing it displays is a little box that looks like it could be a mouse over tooltip. Basically that would be great to have as a mouse over.

OK, I'll work on it. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 01:18, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

Harkor's Ingredients

I assume you have a particular reason for reordering the flavor line; could you tell me? As far as I know, it makes no difference. And as for the item level, Thottbot listed no level, there's no level shown in-game, and it's a quest item, for the love of peat. Does it really make that much of a difference?

As for Inv mushroom 10 [Shimmering Snowcap], is there a policy standard on object image placement? --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 20:21, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

Item level does play a part in several different templates and I do like to have it on all tooltips for the sake of consistency.
As far as image placement, no policy, but the guideline (WP:IMG) says, "Images should generally be right aligned to enhance readability by allowing a smooth flow of text down the left margin - the "thumb" option does this by default." --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 20:35, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

Tabs

Hey, I am Stefan and I am working on a main page for the dutch RuneScape and WOW wiki. I liked these tabs and portals and copied it to the RuneScape wiki and adapt the page into dutch. I made already an homepage for the Runescape site, but the tabs are not working like here. Every time that I click on a tab, I will go to that page, instead of staying on the same page.

Could you help me?

I only made installed the tabs on the RuneScape wiki.

--Darth Stefan (talk) 16:25, 6 May 2009 (UTC)Darth Stefan

You need to install the relevant JavaScript too:
// portal switch
var pspans;
var cTab = 1;
function doPortals() {
tabs = document.getElementById("mptabs");
if (tabs) {
pspans = tabs.getElementsByTagName("span");
for (x=0;x<pspans.length;x++) {
if (pspans[x].className == "activetab" || pspans[x].className == "inactivetab") {
pspans[x].parentNode.onclick = switchTab.bind(pspans[x].parentNode,x/2);
if (pspans[x].parentNode.tagName.toLowerCase() == "a") {
pspans[x].parentNode.href = "javascript:;";
} else {
pspans[x].parentNode.style.cursor = "pointer";
}
if (pspans[x].className == "activetab") cTab = (x/2)+1;
}
}
}
}
function switchTab(x) {
pspans[2*(cTab-1)].className = "inactivetab";
document.getElementById("portal"+cTab).style.display = "none";
cTab = x+1;
pspans[2*x].className = "activetab";
document.getElementById("portal"+cTab).style.display = "";
}
function performTabs() {
if (wgCanonicalNamespace == "Portal") doPortals();
}
addOnloadHook(performTabs);
You will need to put the portals in the Portal namespace for this to activate or otherwise change the script to recognize each page. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 16:34, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

wikipage deletion

Hi, I had created and maintained a wikipage, "http://www.wowpedia.org/Guild:Reborn_(Frostmane_US)"; however, it was recently deleted by you.

I was following up to understand why it was deleted and get the wikipage back up. Thanks for your time & help. Reborn Virtue (talk) 09:09, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

The guild page was deleted because it was tagged as a guild stub (you could see that in the deletion reason); see WP:GUILD. --g0urra[T҂C] 09:16, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

tooltips on other wikis

Hi Pjc,Ii was talking with T-motion of hu.wow, trying to get your tooltips to work, and i figured out why its not working. the popup is working now, but its not finding the data it needs because its looking in the wrong pagename.

his test is at http://hu.wow.wikia.com/wiki/Szerkeszt%C5%91:T-motion/Sandbox its attempting to request data from

?action=parse&prop=text&text={{:wiki/Seg%C3%ADts%C3%A9g:Test%20loot|mode=home}}&format=json

notice whats wrong there?

something in your code is assuming its working under wowwiki's short url structure, and seems to be taking everything after the first / as the pagename, instead of using the available mediawiki js global wgPageName. rather then spend hours trying to untangle where its coming from, i'll let you, since you likely know right where its doing that at.

i hope you can help. --Uberfuzzy 05:36, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

You can't very well use wgPageName since that would be referring to the page it's on, not the page for which you're trying to obtain data...
In the function showItemTip, change
itemname = ttLink.getAttribute("href").replace("http://","").replace("hu.","").replace("wow.wikia.com","").replace("/index.php?title=", "").replace("&action=edit", "").replace("/","").replace(/_/g," ");
to
itemname = ttLink.getAttribute("href").replace("http://","").replace("hu.wow.wikia.com","").replace("/wiki", "").replace("/index.php?title=", "").replace("&action=edit", "").replace("/","").replace(/_/g," ");

Zebra tables ready?

I was wondering if the zebra table class was ready for use. I know when you first created a prototype there were some issues with it (I think the stripes vanished when you reloaded the page). The only issue I can see now is that the striping loses its alternation when you re-sort the table. i.e. row colours sort with the row content rather than remaining true to the row number, but perhaps this is intended. Thanks :) --w.woods (talk) 05:24, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

Zebra table bug

I noted this in the previous topic on zebra tables, but that seems to have been deleted.

There's still, unfortunately, a bug with zebra tables when they're embedded in the Ajax "click to load" code. When embedded in such a way, they lose their stripes (do they become horse tables?)

As an example, please check out User:W.woods/Sandbox1 compared to the table it embeds: User:Pcj/Zebra_tables.

Golem Control Unit

How about you take a look at The end product before you make some final decision.

What, precisely is so sacred about item pages, and particularly quest item pages, that we can't have constructions of this nature?

I realize that you don't get a full-and-accurate item popup, when this construction occurs, but for a quest item is it really that important? --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 22:32, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

You're not the one to receive complaints when popup tooltips don't look exactly as they appear on the page. Also, there already exists a method for multiple tooltips on one page. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 22:35, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
Multiple tooltips... Is there now? Could you show me?
As for "not looking exactly as they appear on the page", it's a bit too late for that, don't ya think? The standard solution is "make a second page". You already know my opinion on that. If you have a method for foxing the right tooltip instance for the right quest page, I'll be on it like white on rice. Otherwise, it'll be some POS disambiguation solution. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 22:43, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
Amusingly enough, my comment for my "final" version of this page included "Now to watch people whine about the tooltip not looking precisely right." --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 22:51, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

Adding quotes.

To Pcj,

Hello, I'm a new contributor to WoWWiki, but I'm very dedicated to keeping order and improving it in any way I can. That's why I've been holding back, editing pages only when I'm sure that I can make a well-done contribution. I've also taken the liberty of adding a quote to the Tirion Fordring page: The speech that Tirion makes in the aftermath of the Battle for Light's Hope Chapel. However, I'm not sure how I can source it, and since this is a new contributor to a more experienced one, I'm hoping you can explain. Any help you can give me will be very much appreciated, as will any comments that you might leave when I write my own user page in the future. One last thing, if there's any problems that anyone has with me, be sure to let me know. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Sir-Nicholas (talk · contr).

Deceased characters; also, javascript popups

1) Looks like it just took me to break people out of "there are only two solutions here". Thanks for confirming me on that.

2) I had wikia javascript enabled (Firefox, NoScript). When I moused over the "T" in your signature, I got a popup that listed recent conversations. However, that popup prevented me from actually clicking on the "T" link. Coobra has a T/C sig much like yours, but with only text in it. That seems to place the popup just off the cursor; I could still click on his. Is it just that my computer is "special"? --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 20:45, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

Meh, I was unhappy with the choices (which is why I didn't vote) but don't really care either way. Gourra prodded me to look at it and since I was at it anyway I spelled it out. Why "paladin class changes"

I wrote that because, Eyonix pretty much said that in so many words, before he went on to explain the overhaul on holy as well as other significant changes to ret and prot.

Upcoming Paladin changes | 2009-06-18 17:00 | Blizzard Entertainment Eyonix

Finally, don’t expect that every class will see this many changes. We are making far fewer changes to class mechanics overall in 3.2, but paladins in particular have some issues we feel are in need of being addressed.

They also highlighted druid skin changes and shaman UI changes, and in the patch notes themselves, death knights were the ones who received "significant talent changes", meriting a talent reset. I do not believe that the paladin changes are any more significant than those of the other classes. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 17:17, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

<Race> (playable)

Since we splited all playable race articles from the main race articles to split Lore and Game mechanics, the Infobox used for all <Race> (playable) don't fit much a basic game description.

I've ended up creating this new template Infobox Playable. It resumes the main points of the playable race in-game (name, race crest, faction, its classes (wow), its two languages, starting zone, racial capital, racial leader, racial mount).

All races are listed here: User:A'noob/Draft.

The goal is to have something completelty (or mostly) splited from Lore.

If you can think of anything else let me know, and tell me if you think I can set it on the playable race articles.

Can you document the max width somewhere, maybe on {{achievementbox}}, or else just change the JS to support wider tooltips? Some of these achievements have really long names. /chomp‎ Howbizr(t·c) 11:20 PM, 20 Jul 2009 (EDT)

Yeah, there are a bunch of things (mostly involving the table formatting) which don't happen when AJAX is loaded. The current implementation of sortable tables is built-in to the skin code so I am not sure it will run correctly for AJAX tables (e.g., screw up other tables already processed). I'll check on it. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 20:08, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
Is there a way to have the page show up like a normal transcluded page {{:Transcuded page}} and just be invisible untill acted on?(or is that what AJAX does? ) -- (M o r p hJames E. Rooks, Jr. aka: Morph

We could put the transcluded page inside an autocollapsed container (table, div, span), but usually the point is to reduce load time (as on recipe list pages); that method would still load all the content but just hide it. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 21:20, 21 July 2009 (UTC)

Also, if you are deleting a lot of your articles, you might want to put "Author requested" as a reason like {{speedydelete|<Author requested>}} so the admins know it isn't someone else just trying to delete a bunch of your pages. Rolandius Paladin (talk - contr) 04:23, 25 July 2009 (UTC)

Porting tooltips to another wiki

I was wondering if you could explain a little about the tooltips; I'm not incredibly experienced with javascript (I don't know much other than the basics) so some of this is slightly confusing.

I've been trying to port the tooltips function to a blank test wiki and it's not really working. I've loaded the tooltips.js file and copied a few random WoWWiki templates over to test it, but I'm getting no popup. From reading the FAQ on your user talk page I got the impression it was never going to be this straightforward, but I'm willing to learn! ;)

If you could list the things that need to be done that would be great. You don't even have to explain what things are, I'll look it all up; just a basic outline of the things that need doing to get the tooltips working would be fantastic.

Hope you can help! --Mynameiskyori (talk) 10:56, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

Hm, that doesn't seem to have changed anything. I've got a MediaWiki:Tooltip.js file which is just a copy/pasta from the WoWWiki one; and I've stuck
document.write('<script type="text/javascript" src="./index.php/MediaWiki:Tooltip.js"></script>');
into the MediaWiki:Common.js file. Am I missing something? :S --Mynameiskyori (talk) 14:42, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

It's really just a clean install of mediawiki. I haven't added anything else, I'm just trying to get tooltips working for a project I'd like to start up. Besides that, it's just hosted locally so there's not really any way to link you to it. :( --Mynameiskyori (talk) 21:55, September 1, 2009 (UTC)

See, that's what I thought, and I tried various combinations of what you recommended, to no avail. No luck in getting it to initiate of Special:recentChanges. ~ Michael von Preußen (voicemail)
I don't know, it should work. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 21:56, September 13, 2009 (UTC)
Yes, and the weird part was that it only stopped working all of a sudden. I've come to the conclusion that it's probably some sort of Wikia software change to rpotect Special pages from being subject to such code, but that said change did not affect certain wikis and did affect either. I've left a note with Uberfuzzy to see if he can resolve it. Thank you for your help; I'll be sure to inform you of the solution if I find one. ~ Michael von Preußen (voicemail)
I don't know, the code is loading on the page, it's just not reading the ajaxPages variable, you can see this by typing javascript:preloadAJAXRC(); into your address bar and pressing enter, so it has the code. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 22:08, September 13, 2009 (UTC)

Deletion of Noble Elite Guard guild information

Hello, I'd like to ask why you don't allow some time for us to properly setup our guild page Guild:Noble_Elite_Guard_(Quel'Thalas_EU). Thanks for the explanation.

Sudiin (talk) 14:27, September 16, 2009 (UTC)

See WP:GUILD, recreation of a guild page as a stub does not give you an extra 30 days to comply with policy, and pages can be permitted to be recreated at an admin's discretion. I did give you a couple of hours to let you to shape the page to comply with the policy, plus it was already given 30 days in the first go-round. It doesn't need to be 100%, it just needs to comply with policy. I can restore the page and give you a few minutes to get it to comply, if you have any question on what it needs, let me know. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 14:34, September 16, 2009 (UTC)
If you could provide a quick list of what was missing that'd be good to know, so the next time I have more than a few minutes to work on it I can include those too, eventhough I was under the impression that only the 3 complete sentences were missing to make it comply with Guild-page Policy. I seem to have missed the no-stub rule after re-creation this time around. I intended to write those 3 sentences in the evening, just didn't foresee the super-quick moderation ;) I will strive to include the neccessary info the next time I have ample time to work on the guild page. Sudiin (talk) 14:43, September 16, 2009 (UTC)
Right, you just needed two more sentences. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 14:45, September 16, 2009 (UTC)

My User Page

Hello, A message appeared on my talk page telling me to ask you if I had any problems. I do. If you would check my user page, you would see that there is very little space inbetween my userboxes and my characters. Do you know how to put a space there? Please reply on my talk page or insert the space yourself.

Ajax

When you have the time, would you examine my hack to get {{Ajax}} to correctly display Grandmaster tailoring patterns on the Tailoring patterns page? Ajax was not respecting <onlyinclude> tags, so I had to work around it. It's ugly, but I would regret even more having to make the Grandmaster tailoring patterns page into a table that can't be categorized and annotated individually. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 22:01, October 1, 2009 (UTC)

Ajax loads and gets the data and the wiki software renders it exactly as you would see it if you pulled it up in your browser. See Template:Ajax#Target page syntax for the normal way to do what you're looking for. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 22:05, October 1, 2009 (UTC)
Target page syntax is inadequate to my needs, in that I want the target page to be a fully useful page in its own right.
... it occurs to me that nearly the same result can be obtained by transcluding a Patterns/Rank "table only" page onto the "Rank Patterns" page. This, though, only transfers "which page you can most easily edit the table from" without evidence that either form is greatly superior for processing.
Suggestions? Am I simply asking too much from Ajax&friends? --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 23:17, October 1, 2009 (UTC)
Just wrap everything you don't want to show up in Ajax in <span class="ajaxHide">. Tada, normal page being pulled into AJAX as you want. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 03:21, October 2, 2009 (UTC)
TYVM. Will put that into action when I get back to the patterns. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 21:21, October 5, 2009 (UTC)

In my tests, I encountered an odd result: On my sandbox page, using <span> generated the expected results. However, in place on the Tailoring patterns page, the first <span> only hid the first paragraph. Examining the source (in firefox) did not clarify things. However, using <div> instead produced the expected results. Will this cause other difficulties that I am currently, blissfully, unaware of, or would it be safe to continue? --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 21:40, October 6, 2009 (UTC)

Template:Patched

Your comment, See the section above for the reason it's coded this way, implies I can't read either talkpages or template code; your revert of my edits implies I can't write template code; and your summary statement of not seeing any problems (instead of asking, for example, "I don't understand what problem your edit is supposed to fix, could you please explain?") implies I waste my time doing pointless edits. If you had intended to insult me, you could hardly have done it better. (I'll try to catch you on irc tonight). --◄mendel► 11:37, October 3, 2009 (UTC)

I don't mean to offend, but your edit did break the template (gives patches like 1.1 wrong dates). If you have any other ideas on how to fix it, I'm open to suggestions. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 12:12, October 3, 2009 (UTC)
Ok, I did get confused there because the template code modifies the 1.10 special case when it's the 1.1 that has the problem; it does work, admittedly.
I'd have forced a string comparison instead of a numeric one in every case by appending the patch numbers with only one "." into the format with two, by using
{{#switch: {{{patch|}}}{{#ifexpr:{{#rpos:{{{patch|}}}|.}}<3|.0}}
|1.1.0=it's 1.1
|1.10.0=it's 1.10
}}
But that's not really a big improvement.
I'd much rather refactor and do
{{#if: {{{patch|}}}
   |{{patch {{{patch}}}|bluenote={{{bluenote|}}}|note={{{note|}}}|link={{{link|}}}|comment={{{comment|}}}}}
   |''not a patch, insert code here''}}
}}
and then have Template:Patch 1.10 call up a common template for display, with the correct date. It allows for the 4.0 special case without any kludges, it allows calling the patch version template directly, and as a result of that it avoids affecting 5000+ places whenever a new version is added, because adding a new version then would mean merely adding a small new template that is a slight modification of the last one. It also avoids the long switch statement that can become a performace bottleneck (although it would probably need to become quite a bit larger for that to be noticeable). --◄mendel► 15:52, October 3, 2009 (UTC)

Ed Forum Trolls Deletion?

Why in god's name would you delete a page dedicated to the forum trolls of Emerald Dream?

Seriously - did some 14 year old whine to you and you, arbitrarily, decided to delete it?

Its not like the trolls visiting the page were virgins or anything - a hell of a lot worse was said on the Ed forums.

Bloodysoul (talk) 01:10, October 4, 2009 (UTC)

It violated WP:NPOV policy. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 01:25, October 4, 2009 (UTC)

Shadow of the Moon guild navbox

My guild's navbox was deleted as a violation of the WP:GUILD policy that "A complete list of guild members" is not allowed. Our navbox only contained links to those members that had taken the time to create WoWWiki character pages. I would appreciate the navbox page being restored at your earliest convenience. --Dmleach (talk) 23:28, October 4, 2009 (UTC)

Sorry, it's still a violation of policy. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 23:32, October 4, 2009 (UTC)
To whom may I appeal your decision? --Dmleach (talk) 23:32, October 4, 2009 (UTC)
Kirkburn. You could also propose a policy change. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 23:38, October 4, 2009 (UTC)
Will do, thanks - and thanks for serving as an admin. --Dmleach (talk) 23:43, October 4, 2009 (UTC)

An alternative might be a server/guild-space specific category, to which the guild page could link. I'm not clear on how one would set one up, though.

Disclaimer: I haven't seen the guild page, nor any of the individual character pages. Having content on the character pages (which presumably would be under Category:Player characters) created by their respective players would strengthen the case; having stubs created by a single author would weaken it. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 21:32, October 5, 2009 (UTC)

If you have ideas to clarify the policy please put them on the policy talk page. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 21:52, October 5, 2009 (UTC)

I have made a proposal to change the policy and would appreciate everyone's support and input. ----Dmleach (talk) 14:10, October 25, 2009 (UTC)
