There are several different types of creatures called gorgons in Warcraft Lore.

Gorgon (beast)
Legend says that the Gorgon are an escaped breed of creature from the Abyssal plane, possibly the remnants of a demon's shattered soul. These beasts are rare, living deep beneath the rugged mountain peaks of the far north and never venturing out from their lairs except to eat and to breed.
Gorgons appear to be formed from stone, but they are living creatures. They live in the coldest places in Azeroth, enjoying the polar chill of high mountains and distant snow-covered plains. Few of the races of Azeroth can count many experiences with these beasts, leaving them mainly shrouded in mystery.MoM 191,192
These may include the 'gorgon' dreadsteeds (see below).
Gorgon (humanoid)
- High Gorgon
It is unknown whether the high gorgon is a creation of the Burning Legion or simply an aberration from some long-forgotten race. In any case, these creatures often lurk in the cities, gathered in small cabals for their own sinister reasons.
- Low Gorgon
Like their humanoid cousins, it is unknown whether the low gorgon is a creation of the Burning Legion or simply an abberation from some long-forgotten race. They tend to stay in the forests or underground unless taken to the cities by high gorgons.MoM 194
Some of the naga have the appearance of humanoid gorgons, with snake like hair.
Notes
- In World of Warcraft is an ogre named, Gorgon'och, a dreadlord named Gorgannon, an orc named Gorgonna, as well as the Annihilan Pit Lord named Gorgonnash are likely named for the gorgon races.
- In World of Warcraft dreadsteeds can be found in a subdirectory entitled Gorgon101, under Nightmares. This implies that dreadsteeds are a type of gorgon, and that certain gorgans are types of nightmares.

Trivia
Another way to link the humanoid Gorgon and the beast Gorgon is by looking at the version of the story which says that the Gorgon, Medusa, was horselike in appearance.[1]
